1.3 won't rev out
I was out for a spin to Belfast, and a jag pulled out in front of me. I had to brake fairly hard, and when I accelerated afterwards, the car just died.
It took a while to restart it and it would die every time I put the throttle in more than just over idling speed. Limped home at 30 mph.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance lads
Mick

Must be a fuel starvation issue (I hope) if it's happy running at low revs and dying on acceleration.
Things to check, your sudden braking may have dislodged some sludge in the bottom of your fuel tank so its time to look at the fuel filter if you have one, and then work through the system, towards the carb, to check the pump and carb float chamber etc etc.
Good luck!

Yup I'd say fuel starvation. If it was instant after pulling up, then I'd start at the carb, strip it off, blow the jet out, clean the muck out of the bowl and then run it again.
if it came on a minute or two later then start at the other end and still do the carb. Do you run with an in line filter?

It was instant, yes MC. I'll strip the carb today, so.
I dont think there's a filter, but I'll addone at the same time
Thanks lads

One other possibility is that something occurred with the brake booster, and that you now have a lot of air being sucked into the inlet manifold.
- mind you, would think it would idle very badly too if this were the case.

Buggered something in the booster or master cylinder? Would expect the brake performance would also have changed for the worse! :shock:Kilroy wrote:One other possibility is that something occurred with the brake booster, and that you now have a lot of air being sucked into the inlet manifold.

It won#'t start at all now either!
Don't want to go messing at the carb if its something else.

Re: 1.3 won't rev out
OK I still think it's fuel, maybe more crap in the jet and now totally blocked etc.. If the carb is an HS rather than HIF than you can get at the float and bowl without stripping it off the car. take the top off the float chamber and check the bowl has some petrol in it, and look for dirt in the bottom.
A quick way to rule out the ignition is to remove the air filter and squirt some Easy Start into the mouth of the carb. If it starts and then dies then you have just proved that the ignition is working, but no fuel is getting through. If it doesn't start then it could still be the fuel supply, but you'll also have to look at the ignition as well.

Stupid question maybe, but how do I know one carb from the other please?
