Plastic panel in engine bay.

Post by Philip » Mon Jun 21, 2010 10:31 pm

Hi, in the back of the engine bay, every other marina I have seen has a black plastic panel. Mine does not. What does this panel do? Mine obviously has had it as you can see clear paint where the rest of the engine bay is covered in black wax. Does it go some way to reduce engine noise?

Hi Phil, it's only a sound deadening pad so nothing to worry about.
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

If you remove the panel, it allows you to hear how worn or badly adjusted the the tappets are from the drivers seat. Much easier than taking the rocker box off and getting stuck in with the feeler guages.

I took mine off and quickly put it back.

Thanks guys. So it will make the motor quieter. I will get myself one then. It may explain why it sounds so cruel to take it over 50mph.
