I have been looking for a marina for a few weeks but am confused by the prices I have seen some for a few hundred pounds that need a bit of work but some one is trying to sell a pick up on ebay at the momment for £3,350 is he for real or is this a realistic price also have seen a good low mileage auto for £1,750
but still feel this is too high so can any one give a rough price guide as I feel that at these prices people will move on to other classics.
Trev

Hi Trev,
the wildly varying prices are like most of the car market, but in general I would say that round about a grand
should buy you a very nice marina indeed, dealers will naturally be more expensive as they have overheads
and have to offer some sort of warranty, even on an old car. There are plenty of good useable cars around
for 500 or thereabouts.
I wouldn't be tempted to stray into the 1500 plus territory unless you really, really want it and plan to keep it a very long
time, as I doubt you would get that back in a hurry. There are some guys on here that have built some beautiful cars
that are probably worth 5 figure price tags, which shows just haw varied the market would be if they decided to sell.
My top tip is don't buy a 72 automatic, they can't be sold apparently!! Marina prices must be due for an up sometime
soon though, they can't stay this low forever.
Hope you find something that suits.

Re: what to pay for a marina
Gotta agree with 'highlift' a grand for a reasonable car with lots of MOT, maybe 600-700 or so for a useable car with some MOT.
Rare cars and sought after cars will fetch different amounts of money. Genuine Mk1 TCs and Mk2 GTs are worth more, vans and pickups are relatively rare as few have survived their hard life so a reasonable one may attract a premium (but not £1500 in my book). SunTors appeal to some but not all - a bit like Marmite. Exceptional cars with ultra low mileage and great condition might be worth more, but you are buying a one -off and the general rules go out the window. Modified cars fall into the same category - the buyer has to want the particular modifications for the car to be worth extra, so this limits the number of buyers.
As to the comment about 1972 Auto's not selling - in the UK all auto's are specialist cars - you need to want an auto first, then find one. Most people want a manual car.
There, that's upset nearly everyone - sorry about that.
