Austin Marina Van

Post by ado28 » Tue Sep 25, 2007 12:52 pm

I was just going to tart it up and put an MOT on it but that was a couple of weeks ago and after getting underneath of the van and scrapping away dirt, grease and other assortments of shit I noticed that the top of the A post on the offside was as rotten as a peach so I decided just to hook the van up and bring it home to the house and put it in the garage.

Seeing how the rally season is more or less finished I decided yesterday to wander into the garage armed with a grinder, a hammer and a cold chisel oh and my camera. The point of the exercise was to remove the offside wing and have a good look at the A post. As originally thought its rotten (but repairable!) The tops of the inner wings are not very cleaver either but I have seen worse!

The next stage is to acquire a mig welder, open an account with BOC and buy a bottle of gas, or 2, or 3. I haven’t done a lot of welding before so any pointers from forum members will be very welcome (planning on teaching myself!)

At the moment I’m just cleaning up the front of the car ready for welding and make template of patches that need to be welded in to the car. Here are some photos of the van so far> to save clogging up the forum more images can be seen at http://s166.photobucket.com/albums/u118 ... YG%20547L/

OOH that looks very familiar Sean!!, although she doesn`t look too bad, get yourself a few cans of Zinc Spray too as this will stop the metal you weld over from festering up again after you`ve cleaned it up, it also helps the welder

Not too bad at all. Also inner panels are the best to practice welding skills on :)
