PRIDE OF LONGBRIDGE EVENT

Post by Uncle Frank » Thu Mar 17, 2011 9:16 pm

Got a call the other day from a nice lady called Tanya Field, she is trying to arrange a Road run to the Pride of Longbride event on Sat 16th April, starting from the old Cowley Plant (now the BMW Mini Plant), she has managed to obtain permission from BMW to meet at the plant as a starting point and then hopefully with about 20-25 Cowley built cars, start off on a road run to Longbridge.
She is very keen for us to supply at least 4 or 5 Marinas /Itals (Nice examples if poss to impress the BMW heirachy  ), and also would like to talk to anyone from the club or otherwise, to help with any ideas or organisational skills they may have to offer.
If you feel you could help her or you would like to attend this event (which she hopes to make an annual one if it works out ok) please give her a ring on either of these numbers..

took me longer to locate parts than the time to remove the box but all systems go now
Should not take to long to build the box.

Is anyone else doing this? I wouldn't mind if I can sort a few things by then. Are dogs allowed at Pride of Longbridge?

All,

Progress on the start at Cowley, Oxford. Alomost certain that Darren White in his TC Coupe will be leading the convoy away. The Ford brothers will also be there with one of their Itals. All members welcome. As it is an Austin club organised trip, see below for contact details - if you want to go, please contact Tanya on the number or email below before turning up. Tanya wrote the rest of this.

Hello Everyone,

Please find attached the plan of the layout for Cofton Park, for your information.

I think I have around 10 to 12 cars on the run, and although I would have liked a few more, we do have some lovely cars which is great. I am on Radio Oxford tomorrow morning, to see if we can get a few more local cars to join us.

I would quite like to be able to set off at 8.30am, so it would be good if everyone could be at the car park by 8.20am for the photos. However, it is more important that we have a good time than get hung up too much on timings!

There are two entrances to the car park, and BMW are happy for us to use both. When you approach the plant, just follow the signs for BMW and they will lead you to the car park. We will be there from 8.00am with our minis, parked over by T Building, for those of you who know it. We will keep an eye out for you.

I took the route at the weekend and it was a lovely drive so I just hope the weather holds up. I drove it obeying all the speed limits and driving at a maximum of 50mph and it took me 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was also a relatively straightforward route and I didn’t get lost once, which is a small miracle for me! I will bring printouts of the route along on the day along with the plaques, cable ties and flags. The route I took was the A44 all the way to Evesham, which is about 40 miles (going through Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton on the Hill). There is a steep hill down about 6 or 7 miles before Evesham so the older cars will have to take it slowly and carefully down it. After Evesham we took the A46 towards Stafford for about 10 miles and then followed the A435 for 2 miles then on to the A448. After that it was the A441 until the last couple of miles which was the B4096. All the road numbers are well signed so hopefully everyone will make it there!

The other small potential problem I need to make everyone aware of is the lack of toilets at BMW. This year, we only have access to their car park, but I am hoping that next year we will be able to use their toilets. My advice is to use the ones in Tescos which is on the other side of road, opposite BMW before we meet in the car park.

For those with Sat Nav, here are some postcodes:

Tescos – OX4 6XJ
BMW – OX4 6NL
Cofton Park - B31 2BQ

Our mobile numbers:

Tanya – 07929 868284
Jason – 07525 975656
Email: tanyafield@supanet.com-her

Please do contact me if you have any queries, otherwise, thank you for coming along and we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

Tanya
