History of the Marina and Ital - Concepts and Conversions

Post by ClaytonSpeed » Tue Oct 02, 2007 9:23 am

With all this talk of different concepts and conversions I would really like to gather up as much information as possible on them. As only a relatively young owner/member I did not get to see some of the early shows where different cars turned up. I have heard people talk about them but never actually seen pictures or specs on cars.

This is not just a thread for custom cars but the factory ones too and amateur rally vehicles. I would like to compile a document that could be used for reference in the future before we have no history left! Lets face it Gaydon don't seem to be interested in the BL history (hardly any 70's cars in the collection now) and it is such a fast and interesting history.

This is really only the tip of an iceberg but it could grow to be much larger!

Any old copies of club magazines, photos from shows and written reports on these cars would be fantastic. Of course you will be credited but all I want is information!!

For new forum members and club members of any club this information could be like gold. Think of it like Open Source or a Wiki (that’s a style of website that is fuelled by ordinary people and is FREE).

This could just be the first of a series, I am going to email Practical Classics and get them to put up a small announcement too.

Here is a selection of photos I have for starters but alas no information as such.

Thank you!

Thanks Larry, Yeah I have all that from Keith Adams on Austin-Rover.co.uk...

What I am really interested in is personal comments of people that saw these cars or built modified cars in the later years.

8) hi ben.......ref your old car yfc337l. at scone palace last year an elderly man came up to us and right away he knew the car as having being owned by one of the cowley directors. i am sure he said that the director was either hungarian or czechoslovakian. but he knew the plate right away. he was amazed that the car still existed and that seeing it made his day.
i remember in the 70s watching the rallying on bbc. even the monte. there was always the mini, avengers and viva gts but never really the marina.........larry
