I was watching "When Moyles Met The Radio 1 D.J's" last night & they had a brief clip of 1970's Britain with something we all love on this forum:
I have more Marina's as seen on TV to post, I bet you can't wait!

Back in the 1960's the dear old BBC used to make 16mm film copies from 405 Line TV shows - the 405 Line video tape was then wiped & reused - this also used to happen to some 625 Line colour video tape as well , with 16MM black & white film prints sold abroad to TV stations who did not have a colour TV service at that time. In 1974, the BBC held a 625 line, Quad video tape Colour copy of the Doctor Who episode "Invasion" Part 1 - parts 2 to 6 were known as Invasion Of The Dinosuars, now in 1975, the BBC comissioned a mass junking of old TV shows considered of no further worth - copies had been made & sent abroad & then possibly junked. Sadly the Colour video tape of The Invasion ( of The Dinosuars) was wiped. Now, I have had many arguments with members of various DVD & Doctor Who forums as to the colour of the Morris Marina which is seemed to be crushed by a T-Rex in the episode after the car is used by a crook who robs a jewellers shop. Any ideas? The BBC & 2 Entertain will probably attempt colourization of this episode eventualy for DVD release, & I'd like them to get the cars colour right!
Then after the naughty Dino has stamped it ( it's a "ringer" from the local scrappy - note lack of number plate)

My money is on the Dr who Marina as being Wild Moss - a dark brown. The only other contender for a 1972 car (standard wiper pattern) is dark blue.Black tulip cars and mallard green cars all had light coloured seats, and the car in the pic appears to have dark seats probably black.

Someone on YouTube had a go at colourizing the episode themselves - don't worry, it's right at the start of the clip:

& if you can be bothered, have a look at 3.57" & See the car moving:

Just watched this clip in full :

& the seats are light coloured, in the pre wrecked car.
You can see the light seat colour in both of these screen grabs:

My guess would be Teal Blue, with the light coloured seats. Possibly Midnight Blue on the wrecked car.
Looks like the wrecked car suffered from understeer and ended up around a tree, before being used for filming!!!!!

That's an old one, been discussed on here before I'm sure- think it was decided that the reg. doesn't belong to that car.
It certainly looked a bit cruddy in the wing area...

Invasion Of The Dinosuars is indeed coming out on DVD soon, & they have attempted to recover the colour from the black & white film recording & will present the finished result as an extra on the disc.
See this link to see how colour can be recovered from monochrome film of previously colour video tape:
http://colour-recovery.wikispaces.com/Home
I've been reading on several Doctor Who forums that the colour recovery for
Invasion Part 1 with the Marina has not shown up the colour blue, but they have manualy "painted" it in, so it will be intresting to see how LMP 116K & it's wrecked look a like show up. - I'll post a screen grab in due course - the release date for this DVD is January 2012, but this is subject to change.

Well, "Invasion Of The Dinosuars" is now out on DVD, & as I bought mine online, I received it today - anyway, The Doctor Who Restoration Team have used a colour recovery system, & episode 1 can now be presented in colour, as best as it can be, here are screen shots, taken with my digital camera pointed at my Sony Bravia:
So PURPLE it is! ( No doubt you Marina experts will tell me the correct colour name!)

With a brown interior it would more likely be Aconite, IMHO

Colour too dark and too early for aconite. Not sure about black tulip either, seats would be red or spanish rose with black tulip, but could be poor colouring by the beeb
