A friend of mine has reluctantly decided to sell this;





Its a 1974 Leyland Marina 262A. Bottle on inner guard is upper cylinder lube..





Overall condition is surprisingly good considering the mileage which may be 183250K. May also be 83250K - hard to tell from the state of things, and the first owner has passed on.





Body is to all intent rust-free, and would appear to have been garaged most of its life..





Colour is called "bold as brass", and is possibly original, although someone has messed with a brush under the bonnet..





All hubcaps, wheeltrims and other brightwork is in excellent order, which reinforces the mostly garaged status.





Panels extremely straight, and the only bit of flaky paint I could find was around the '262' badge. Even window rubbers are excellent..





Upholstery all original, and showing signs of wear - but not excessively...





Quite a nice cockpit in black. It seems I will get to drive it next weekend..





.. when it is being driven to the annual swap meet here in Christchurch, New Zealand. It will be advertised for sale there. If anyone has a hankering for what must be one of the world's best remaining examples - speak up quick.!
Currently all legal and on the road.

Indeed it does.

Most odd to hear the six cylinder gurgle emanating from the exhaust when its fired up.

Be nice to have the chance to experience it on the road...

Great condition and love the seats as well.
Also like the Austin Cambridge / Morris Oxford in blue? Think it is a Austin Cambridge as the Morris I think had even sharper rear lamps?

Other way round, Paul. The Cambridge had the taller,'sharper' rear light clusters.
I'm fairly sure that is a blue Oxford. 8) I wonder how much it would cost to import the 262 to the UK? That's really nice!!!

"bold as brass" is a n Australian Leyland colour which is a distinct Yellow
i noticed there are no head restraints on the front seats, New Zealand delivery?
it will go quite quick in a straight line but watch out for turning and stopping
i have found the Marina's i have driven to be quite different from each other in the handling
department

What a great looking car ,They should have sold this car in this country.can you put a six cylinder in a marina made in this country would you need a lot of modification.Would be quite costly to export I presume

The front valance would be different as would the steering geometry. The rack on these cars was 30mm higher up the bulkhead.

Doable but yes costly unless you had access to all the right bits!

I think Leyland Australia got the rust proofing right, iirc they stuck the body on a pole and rotodipped it.

Lots of subtle differences between the original 4-cylinder Mk1 (badged Morris) and the 6-cylinder Mk1.5 (badged Leyland). Larger trans tunnel for the 3-speed manual, different location for rear shocks, raised steering rack, stronger front uprights, fractionally larger and thicker discs (and calipers/pads?), larger radiator and electric fan.

Presumably the head restraints were deleted as a cost saver for the NZ market, although all the Coupe's I've seen had them.

This one's a 3-speed auto (same BW35 as UK Marina and Rover 3500 iirc), but the manual's were an Aussie 3-speed Borg Warner (same as the Leyland P76, Aussie Ford Falcon and Chrysler Valiant).

yep you saw right a 3 speed manual floor shift very unusual,
these where only for the 6 cyl and the 4cyl had the 4 speed triumph box
most of these gearboxes in the P76, Falcon, Holden, Valiant where coloum shift
