Marina in the Great Race

Just stumbled across the story of the Leyland Marina 262 Coupe that raced in the 1974 Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama.

Absolutely brilliant, what a great find. Do you know whether they got the Bathurst Marina out for the 2010 season?

Wow Bryan what a fantastic read, thanks for posting it. Would be great to see some pics of the car as it is now. How many Marina 6s are left do you reckon?

Several in NZ, one in Norway, quite a few in Oz, and at least a couple in South Africa. Quite a few shown on the OzMarina website - don't how many are still on the road, though.

Shame they didn't stick with the standard carb, or have the time to get the 2" carb tuned. 64 bhp at the rear wheels would equate to 89-94 bhp at the flywheel, well down on the stock 110 bhp

. The 110 bhp at the wheels would equate to 135-140bhp. Either would have given much better speed, but might have been too much for the standard brakes.

Very impressed that it kept up with the Brock Torana over the top of the mountain

, considering it's poor handling reputation. Wonder if there is any video footage of that?
