Aussie Marina 40th Birthday

we used to do series milage in the old man's thou without any trouble. down to new plymouth, all round the waikato... and since he is putting a datsun in it anyway most your arguements are invalid. [may have spare discs too if you need them]

i myself really need a two door a35. similar story - except i expect it will be way harder to upgrade the front end.

i know its not a sedan but at the present moment it the only good photo i have on a photo sharing system

Not quite true, drums, non syncro gearbox, seats like a park bench, lots less power, lower diff ratio, etc. I would be quite happy to have a race with a standard minor if anyone would like

I went all around the Uk in a Morris Traveler, and I loved it, but I had no time limit and was just cruising around with no definite destination. It was a very different story when I started using it for a daily commute tho. I didn't say it wouldn't do big milages, its just a lot faster and comfier in a Marina. Just like its even better in a Montego rather than a marina, and even better again in a Rover 75.Thats just progress for you, which you would enjoy the most may well be a totally different story.

Since your old man is upgrading it with a Marina front end and a datsun 1200 engine (what an awesome little engine, is he using the box too?)that actually was my arguement

Actually they race A35's in tintop classic racing in the Uk so if you want to modify one, check out some of the websites, they do quite well so they must be fairly easy to modify, and they are suprisingly quick.
I think theres a few about too, want me to keep my eye open for one for you?

not quite yet. i don't need the distraction - once i've got the van sussed then there is thousands to sink into the avenger to get it back up near tiger spec. though if there is one being given away with a solid body...

a few minors came standard with 1100s, right? from a standing start it can't have been much worse than a poverty spec 7cwt. trunion joints, one piece flip front seats, 4 wheel drums, struggles over 80km...

I once thought I could get 140kph out of my 1300 van, then I realised it had the wrong speedo drive and It was actualy about 110
I just sold my Avenger and gave all the bits I had a way with it. Do you know theres two avengers in Mangere pick a part? What do you need?

yeah, the guys on avenger.co.nz are pretty onto things like that. what was your car? i might recognise it. currently i'm pretty sussed - it's been running nice and reliable for a while now. just need an air filter housing for a single stromburg 45 - its not getting enough air and running rich. i've been meaning to get up to auckland - sure someone would have one sitting around because they've all converted to tc.

i could get 140km/h easy - though given the handling and aerodynamics i didn't very often. 14 inch wheels and the original speedo cable jerry-rigged into a 5 speed makes me not to sure though. could have been anywhere from 110 to 150. felt fast.

Just for arguments sake I have to drive 25km to get to town (if you call Oamaru a town) which is one reason why Im not enjoying the thought of the Minor.

I really don't care what people think, which is partially why I want either of these instead of the Skyline, as a big 'f**k you' to all the people who follow trends and do it all for 'street cred' and 'respect' or to get girls...

This Marina has live plates luckily, partially why it interests me, as it was a completely road legal car until a few years back when the slave cylinder went on it, and the owner just couldn't be bothered fixing it.

For the record I have an entire Coupe out the front that I will be stripping completely for anything worth having, and then probably scrapping (I'd prefer not to, but its pretty much had it) so if I got the minor any and all parts that could fit from the Marina, would go onto it.

I guess its the fact that I grew up with my fathers series MM minors that this one doesnt appeal to me (still trying to convince my dad to sell me his lowlight :twisted: ) as I've always thought the 1000's were ugly in comparison.

Now thats a tricky one, the MM with marina running gear would actually be quite good, and as I said everybody loves them.
The Marina would be a 1750? or 1500? which would be a good car to just blitz around in.
When faced with a chioce I usually buy both
Actually how cheap are these two? and if you buy only one, what happens to the other one, does it get destroyed, or does it still sit around

Since this thread is for Aussie Marinas, anybody happen to have any pictures of Aussie sedans? went and looked at the one this morning (nice orange colour although a bit rough) and need some motivation to help me decide between buying that, or a Morris Minor I also looked at this morning... Decisions :roll:

Marina engine and box won't fit in the minor though unfortunately, so it'd be much more hassle to get any useful power out of it.

Marina will be bought as a rolling body, and it will receive my 1750 TC engine (just lying round anyway )

The Marina is $300 to me, as a personal friend of the guy, and the Minor is $1100 with WOF and reg (my dads friend) and will be used daily by the current owner if I don't buy it.

The Marina on the other hand, will sit in this guys paddock covered in moss with weeds growing around it for years most likely, as the guy has about 30 cars (all of which are 'projects')

It was a runner but he wants the engine and box for his coupe, and I would prefer to buy it without them anyway (means one more Marina on the road when his coupe is fixed too )

What parts are you after exactly? Want a whole shell? :roll:

So the choice is obvious, it has to be the marina
Not only are you saving something from certain destruction, your utilising your spare bits, a commendable choice
Put up a couple of photos of them both, and lets have a look. I really don't know what I'd go for? The mm with wof and reg sounds a good deal.

I would love to buy a whole shell, Bit of a problem transporting it to me tho, but I guess we are all gonna have to meet up somewhere half way for the Marina's bithday tho anyway
Door rubbers, window rubbers,boot rubber, door locks, carpet, a good interior, quarter window rubbers, a rear bumper, center console, a really good rhs taillight, and I'm sure theres more, but thats a good start.

Now time for my dilemma, I've just been offered a 1974 Marina Tc saloon and a 1980 marina 1700 mk3? saloon in excellent condition. both have been off the road since 2000 the Tc will find a home (c'mon Bryan!) but the mk3 probably wont, but I can save it, or I can wreck it for bits for mine, obviously I could wreck the Tc, but thats just unforgivable :roll:

What should I do??????
