Grease your nipples!

Post by MarinaCoupe » Sat Mar 24, 2012 7:20 pm

Got the Coupe out of its winter slumber today. Started up after a little persuasion and a jump start.

Did some pre-season checks, greased the 6 nipples using the new high molybdenum grease. Checked the timing, front wheel bearings, fuel mixture, tickover, tyre pressures, water, oil.

Didn't have time to check the diff or gearbox oil - save these jobs for next weekend.

Funily enough, I was going to do this today before I realised I've leant out my trolly jack to a pal and I'm not suicidal enough to attempt to lift a car with a scissor jack! Can it be done effectively with the wheels still on? If so, I might do it tommorow after lunch.

Greasing the suspension is best done with the weight off the suspension, to allow the grease to push right through the channels and push the old grease out through the seals.

Hmmm never thought of doing it with it up in the air, sounds like a good idea.

I usually do mine every fortnight anyway with the amount I drive it so not much chance of any old grease lurking in there!

I usually need to check my oil every two or three days  Hope they hurry up with my new cylinder head :(
