Killroy you are completely right of course, it just celebrated by failing its wof today on the rear subframe that holds the diff together, not too bad a fix tho, just tricky!
However just ordered the parts, seems everyone has old Jag bits around $100 which wasn't too bad
Which is In fact very close to my Marina calipers for its wof
However second morgage is already arrainged for fuel costs ;)

Yep lord Stokes she loves it and is very happy with it as a wedding car, so my motives are good
I'll buy every 3 legged donkey on the lot, and try and save em all.

Two likely reasons - the buyer wanted options that weren't fitted to the local versions, or they had more orders than they had ckd kits.

1973/74 were boom years for car sales in NZ, before the first fuel shock hit. My dad bought his only new car in '73, and Ford couldn't locally assemble a Falcon wagon with the engine/gearbox/colour combination he wanted :problem: , so eventually they found one in Oz and shipped it over :rolls: .

Actually that sounds right, my car has Blue Leather which is very rare on a white car, I've never seen it before? There may be a reason for this :-?
Its also got full electric windows and aircon, which I bet cost a packet in 74
Obviously it doesn't work :rolls:

You'll have to join Jag Lovers forum, and download the XJS "bible". Since the XJS shared most of it's mechanical and electrical systems with the XJ saloons, that'll tell you how to fix the complicated electro-mechanical climate control air con and power windows.

And the air con would likely explain why your car was imported. afaik Nelson only fitted air con late in the piece.

I haven't seen them yet, but they are meant to be sound and have just come off the road, there's a fair bit of work for the wof on one of them, but its all easy enough, bushes, brakes etc.
I should know a bit more next week. One is a 1300 saloon and the other is an 1800 saloon.
Thats about all I know apart from the fact that they are supposed to be very cheap!
