Advice as to values please

Post by 1700HL » Sun Sep 09, 2012 10:36 pm

I recently placed a Wanted advert on this forum for a Marina or Ital Automatic. No replies as yet, but I wonder whether I have missed the boat value-wise. I've now broadened my search to include cars with Manual gearboxes, but very little seems to be in my price-range. I'd like a car suitable for daily use, but in need of improvement and tidying etc: is my initial budget of £750 (ish, obviously I'd stretch a little for the right car) simply unrealistic these days? I had hoped to buy a car with an MOT (or close to achieving a pass) that I could make better on a piecemeal basis. Any guidance gratefully received. :D

PS 1275cc Marina/Ital (any variant) still wanted. :D

You will definitely get a car for that kind of money, not on Ebay though!
Try the Free ads and the local papers they were always good for a bargin.
Maybe the Automatic bit it the tricky part, there were not that many new and there's a whole lot less now
I'll buy every 3 legged donkey on the lot, and try and save em all.

Where do you check locally, apart from TradeMe? Or is it just contacts in the trade?

If your an MMOC member then cars come up for sale in their members section. £750 should get you a Marina with an MOT quite easily

Ah, I hadn't realised that there is a separate classified section for members, I'll join the club in that case. I haven't done so before as I thought I'd get a car first.

I usually only check eBay and Gumtree with the occasional foray onto Autotrader. I'm not aware of any other outlets though check newsagent's windows regularly!

My daily driver is causing me endless problems so, allied to the fact that the insurance expires soon, am hoping to get a new car (Marina/Ital) before mid-October. Fingers crossed!

Many thanks for all your replies.

You'll do far better buying a car through the club than one on eBay. The best cars always seem to change hands within the club, not to mention for less money too!

Mines for sale on the forum and for £750. Very good car for the money. Just look in the Classifieds Section - A place to discuss your Wanted items.
