I get your point Ben, but also the HL is running on standard steel rims ( 5 J I pressume ) with 155x13 tyres. As mentioned by Chris earlier in this thread, they were not really wide enough for this event. Plus it had snowed all night the night before, and was still snowing the morning of the shoot. I deliberately left these tyres on because I wanted to have a little play while I was there, which I did! And it was great fun!!!! Barry Williams said it would have been better with 5 1/2 J TC wheels, and some Goodyear tyres. This might make it better, but less fun to drive! Plus I'm never likely to put the wrong rims on it either. You know me, I do like my standard stuff lol!! That aside the HL still won the day, Barry said it was the nicest, and easiest car to drive. And said if it was not for the speedo showing 58k. He said it feels like it has done a lot less. He went on to say that it was, Very smooth, VERY responsive, smooth gearchange, and he felt the dash board was the best laid out, and the easiest to read. The worst thing he found, was a little wind noise around the opening front quarter light windows. And he could feel the base of the headrest stem through the seat in his back. Not really surprising as its nearly 40 years old. Obviously the PC article will reveal more, as I was not privvy to all that was said. Everyone ( including me ) was shocked that the HL came out top, more so because Dolly Sprints are his favourite. In fact they are what he used to race in the 70's. Danny Hopkins said "There you are, the praise has come, just 40 years too late" As a final note I do have pics to upload here. But would you all like to see them now, ahead of the article, or after??

Regards

Steve Moss

The March edition came out this week, the next one is the 'Spring' edition.

Should also have news of that rescued Ital that lost its storage recently.

Got my copy of Practical Classics in the post today.

Great job Steve! Have you changed the tyres yet?

Wow, bought this mag the other day, great result. Just shows what happens when you get an unbiased person judging them. In the past when a Marina has been compared in the PC "Rep car" tests (remember Phillip's 1.3 saloon, and the Wiltshires 1.8 saloon) the Cortina Mk3 always wins. This is because the perceived reputation of the cars influences the modern journo's and they don't want to lose face by picking something "different" as the winner. Well done Steve (and "Whizzo").
