Got up nice and early and cut out a section of Reynards rotten outer and inner sill (O/S/R) and welded in some homemade repair sections then rushed him off for his MOT as it expires tomorrow. Came back from the test station with a clean sheet. #wellchuffed :)

I blame Matt (PHUQ)..

Decided that I would drag Ronnie out of hibernation to see what it needs for an MOT.. Popped a fresh battery on her and cleaned the earth points. Checked the points and coil all worked... Then turned the key and all I got was the bloody starter motor turning but not throwing the gear out... Bloody starter motors..! And it's the early type!! Grr

Fitted Ital HLS passenger seat and the glove box hinges.

Does anyone know how to get the headrests out after you've pushed them in all the way? They come about half way out and them seem to hit a internal stop bar or something?

Any advice appreciated.

Cleaned out the interior and tried to get the Rain-ex off the inside of the windscreen (don't ask!) and it's nigh on impossible to remove.

Also over the last two-three days the motor stumbles momenterally, both when light cruising and under load in 3rd gear going up a hill

And when cold or when warmed up.

And ideas? :?: - it happens for 1/2 a second or so and then away like nothing has happened, never seems to happen at idle and it still starts pretty damn good - just like normal.

Found out that the bloody head gasket has gone. Typical, just before the national.

On the Mumford I assume Gary? At least you have a spare Marina if all else fails ;)

I drove mine 8-) first time in over a month.

Going to use her for work all week if she behaves, as a warm up for next weekend.

Managed to get my mits on a working compression tested today and it would appear that No. 1 has lost it all- it's not merely down a bit, it's practically atmospheric! Might explain the slight reluctance to start, the heavy breathing and the misfire under load :mr green: Fairly sure it's rings gone.

If you haven't done already, squirt a drop of oil in through the spark plug hole and try the compression again. If it improves then its the rings, if it doesn't improve then it's the valve seats on that cylinder.

Unfortunately I haven't. Darren and Babs are bringing the other one. They did say that I could use it if I wanted to but it's their weekend as well so if mine doesn't get done, I don't go.

Their car is just about beyond economic repair. It needs an awful lot of welding done to it.
