Didn't think to try that actually Chris, I will in the week. I strongly suspect it is cracked rings though- it actually "went" fairly suddenly, I was on the motorway back last year (on the way to pick up some parts from Richard actually) and pulled into the middle lane to let someone join at a sliproad, who promptly matched my speed exactly so I couldn't pull back in (why do they always do that?!). Hoofed it to get past and back to the safety of the inside line and the world behind went blue & it all got a bit noisier. Hit the hard shoulder but it was still running so pulled back on and carried on to the next junction, where an under bonnet check revealed lots of oil around the filler cap on the underside of the bonnet & a low reading on the dipstick. Decided to chuck some more in and take it steady back home, which we did & it was fine. Still burns quite a lot of oil and tends to throw a bit out the filler cap on long runs but seems to keep going, I've no doubt we'll make Devon if we take it easy. Remarkable things really, these old lumps. Quite looking forward to doing the post mortem once the TC engine is ready to go in (won't bother until the car is back from the IoW- if it goes pop in the meantime I'll just take her off the road and start stripping her).

Must have done over 1000 miles since then though so I reckon it'll be reet 8-)

Ahh, drat- that's a pain then. Do you think you'll manage to get it done? :(

OK Went for a run all day in the sun shine. Had a small scare trying to go backwards up a steep grass slope and not sure if reverse jumped out or was not engaged but it made a noise! Thought it was wheel spinning on the grass but it was not! Still seems to work fine so probably my fault :rolls:
Then coming back up the A24 south from Storrington I was amazed to see a MK1 Saloon in I think Lime flower going in the opposite direction North bound
Looked in good nick and we exchanged waves so we both saw each other. Wonder who it was as seeing any Marina in West Sussex is rare?

Hoping so but at the moment I am sitting here twiddling my thumbs while waiting for Darren to get here with VYL and my tools which are in the boot.

Had a busy day and decided to make an early start on giving Reynard a wee freshen up. While I was doing his O/S headlamp panel a few weeks ago I noticed that his N/S one was also soft so today I decided to replace it

I also stripped the tired paint from the landing panel and will paint this back in to body colour. Fingers crossed the rest of the week is nice so I can bash on with it

Permission given to suspend gardening and paint repair the Marina!

Boot lid off and stripping the paint, mine has always been wobbly, so tack welded each corner, still wobbly!

Still in Devon and drove to Bigbury Beach left marina in car park for the day while I got sun burnt but a another cracking day :-D
Nearly had some one wipe out the side of my car as close as half an inch but it missed so all was well but scary.
I can recommend Bigbury beach to anyone its one of the best beaches I have been to in a while and certainly in the UK

Regular haunt while I was at uni, Bigbury. Lovely place. Mud has been there a few times!

Drove through Paignton yesterday following the NatSav through a 1950s housing estate and spied a blue Marina Van parked at the roadside, sign written for a painter and decorator. I went back today to get a picture and it wasn't there.
