How many left?

Post by Retroreject » Thu Jul 04, 2013 10:20 pm

This has probably been asked a few times before..but i was wondering if anyone had a rough idea of how many
coupes..especially Mk1's were actually left now..or known to exist. if I search a certain website for 1.3 sdl's
it states 43..but that's presumably including saloons as there's no mention of body type?...
just curious :D

Afraid not, there is no accurate data on the number of Marinas left, let alone by body style or trim level.

Most Marinas are registered and appear on howmanyleft as Deluxes or DLs. The reality is that the majority of surviving cars seem to be SDLs followed by TCs. From doing the census data (We have over 600 cars on it now) it would seem that 1.3 Marinas were always more popular than 1.8s, or at least survive better presumably because of the lower tax prices on a 1.3.

Once Ben has sorted out some new graphs and got the census data together (which is still ongoing) then we will have a far better idea of how many cars were made of what type and trim, and how many are left. I am trying to get as many cars as possible on the census and I am confident we can easily reach 1000 cars on there (I only have to look up reg numbers either side of the cars already on there to find out about more Marinas!). That's still only 1000 out of around a million made though! Amazing how nearly a million cars can just vanish!

What happened to the census? It was visible but I guess Ben is still working on it?
Also we need a way to check if the car on the census is dead or alive still!

I am inputting data to the census, sometimes as much as 100 cars per day. At some point hopefully Ben will put it back so others can use it. I am waiting for Ben to add a field on the form to state whether a car is on the road or not.

I will be going back at some point and going through the entire list to see when cars were last on the road.

Most cars coming up for sale or being restored now have been stashed away for years. A surprising number that were on the show circuit a few years ago have disappeared. We have lost some really good cars over the last few years.
Most Marinas seem to have been scrapped by the mid to late 80s but even then some of the cars surfacing now have been off the road since then so it gives me some hope there are plenty more to be discovered....
