Malta trip now booked early august
will bring a few spares - thinking of both rad hoses, the alternator/waterpump belt - - does anyone know if the diesel share this parts with the 1300/1800/1700 petrol engines ?

Has it still got the Isuzu diesel in the first photo, or have you had the original B-series diesel refitted?

had the original slow lump installed and also the original low back seats . guy must think i'm mental downgrading the car . i think he might be right

2 hours before leaving for the airport ...
looked up the distance on my tomtom nav - 3658 kilometers
bringing some tools, some electrical wire, duck tape, spare fanbelt, spare clutch hose, spare frontwheelbearing,
i was certain that i also had a spare 1500 rad hose - but cant find it at the moment ...
will try to put some pics up from the trip
only set date is rome 2nd august as i'm meeting a friend ther and we will be driving together up north

can´t match kilroys writing skills but i might create something with better photos when i get home meanwhile the photos on here will be from my mobile so here goes
first of all a big thanks to joseph fenech - the guy selling the car, he drove me around to the insurers the maltese dvla , customs for export papers and helped me do some minor adjustment for the trip. he also have some other marinas for sale - don´t knoe if he is on the forum but he is a club member. and if judging by the car i bought after 2 days the rest of his fleets tahta up for sale should hold a very high standard
here is some pics of his fleet - they are all for sale. i think the best van have been on ebay






anyway some of the day went by fixing the paperwork, then i drove around the island beeing tourist

then it was of to valettea to take a ferry to sicilly
coming from a really HOT norwegian summer with 20-25 celsius it was a bit differen handliing the 37-40 degrees on malta- luckily the ac (windows) on the marina worked well
my daughter who is joining me for the first part of the trip were enjoying the sights of malta

we found a nice little restaurant close to the harbour. parked the car on the ferry-line and went to get something to eat. Beeing on an island we both took the chance of some seafood . swordfish, cienna (which i dont know what is) and some seafood gnocci tasted very good after a long day. me i ended the day with a few locals



before we headed back to the marina waiting for the ferry to arrive

next morning we were in italy - sicilliy



i had set the sat nav for avoiding motorway as the engine sounded a bit stressed if faster than 70 km/h

on the first hills i had to downshift to third just to make the car go faster than 50 km/h . so i decided to pull over at the first ga-station available and have a look. sure enough the LH rear wheel was very hot ..... hmmmm can´t get home with this - should i just dismantle the brakes or what. The car have been standing for more than a year and allthough Joseph fitted new rear cyls a year ago i smelled seized brakes (well actually it was asbestos i smelled)...

i had brought sufficient set of tools so dismantling and isolating the brakes on one wheell wouldn´t take long - but i sort of hoped that i would have come a bit further before putting the spanners to work. got inside the car for a rething, but as i was about to move the car into the shades i noticed the rookie mistake. On the ferry i had engaged the handbrake - but when leaving the ferry i hadn´t fully disengaged the handbrake - rookie mistake ...

well hitting the road again - this time with the handbrake in the off-position - after 10 minutes drive i pulled off and rececked the brakes - everyting was as cool as it gets when its 40 degrees outside.

reaching palermo after about 6 hours drive was good and the marina now seems smoother , so i was able to cruise happily on 70 km/h and maxing out at 75/h

while waiting for the ferry to naples - we celebrated with some shea shells and some seafood-pasta - of cours also joined with a few locals

Sounds like you are having fun and good luck with the rest of the road trip...got to say you have bigger balls than I!!! Do like reading about old cars on a MASSIVE road trip knocking up the miles. Make sure you keep us up to date with the progress.

arrived early morning in naples after a good night sleep on the ferry. Enjoyed the early morning roush-hour traffic in naples. I think the word rush.hour in an italian dictionary will be something like : i there is room for your car there - just squeeze it in, disregard the traffic signs -and ay paint on the road is probably just grafitti. If you cant use your throttle within the next 60 seconds - be sure to let the other drivers know that you haven´t fallen asleep by repeatedly using your horn. I think the 2 most impoprtant thigs they check at an italian mot is the throttle pedal and the horn

anyway breaking free from traffic we headed out for rome. feeling quite brave this morning having survived the rush-hour traffic i decided to have a go at the motorway. i dont know if it is my growing confidence in the diesel or if it have becoming less soothy along the way. i now let it cruise between 75-80 km/h , i have decided to dont push the engine anymore over the 80 km/h mark as i still have some ground to cover .

first day in rome we visited colloseum and the pallatino hill . trying to give my daughter some historical input along the way

then we ended the day with some pizza and i got to know mr Poretti before the day ended



The next day we decided that since my daughter had different addresses in rome she wanted to visit (shopping but what do you expect from a 19 year old woman) and i always wanted to drive a scooter in rome. we rented at 125 ccm . This is definetively the best way to move around in the city. There are several scooter-rentals in rome. the price for us for one day on a 125 ccm was 45 euros. - well worth fullfilling another thing i always have wanted to do....

we ate some more delicious pasta and pizza a bit away from the typical tourist-traps and i ran into mr peroni again



little did i know he also had a twin brother



well fed and having adjusted to the italian way of driving, although not the bravest of the scooter-drivers around rome - we went back to the hotel where i was introduced to a cousin of mr peroni - he lived in the mini-bar but sadly had a short life before we went to bed



but of cours this is a road trip so here is somthing to justify that
