Strange gearbox problem.

Post by TC Torryn » Wed Sep 18, 2013 8:37 pm

Hi all

I sold my 4 speed 1.8 gearbox on ebay a few weeks ago as I have fitted my type 9 5 speed in now. I did 10,000 miles with the 4 speed with no problems. however the buyer of the box has found, now he has fitted it, that it wont select reverse, but if he removes the reverse balk plate it will select reverse. I had never experienced this problem when it was in my car so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why this could happen? I didnt sell the gearstick with the box so this is the only diference i can think of.

Thanks

Torryn

Not sure why it would matter, but there are early and late gear sticks and their designs are slightly different at the selector end. Could it be that you need the original gearstick to go with the box?

Perhaps he doesn't realise you have to lift the lever...

Ye I think thats going to be the solution.

P.s. Kilroy, I checked with him that he was lifting to select reverse and he was. Good point though.
