is my engine seized?

Post by scrat6 » Wed Dec 25, 2013 10:20 pm

Hi guys,
So I blew a frost plug in my 1800cc. Ive took engine out and replaced plug.........fly wheel moved freely when engine was out. Now that I've put engine back in it won't start....starter motor won't turn engine over....even being towed.
Any suggestions?

As they say - it is usually something you have done.. ;)

If the engine turned over ok before refitting, then something went wrong then.
Try removing the starter motor and see if it turns over - they can end up jammed against the ring gear.
If things did not line up correctly when the gearbox went back to the engine - you might have something unhappy there - check that the bellhousing is mating evenly all the way round - no gaps.

How much did you take apart while you were doing the frost plug replacement.?

Hi ken,
Starter motor moves freely, I didn't take to much apart. .....I just removed engine. ....took off flywheel. .clutch plate. ..back plate ect to get at plug. I will go see if everything is mated up correctly!

Ive taken engine out again and flywheel ect all move very freely. Is there any way of checking my starter motor while it is out of car......it doesn't line up with the flywheel for some reason

Mmmmm sounds familiar! When you put the engine back in did you put the washers on the two bolts that go though the plate that comes off the sump & bolts into the bellhousing? If not they touch the flywheel & jam everything up!!! Believe me it stops the engine turning over big time!!! :-( we had the engine in out a couple of times before we discovered what was going on.
