1.3 Auto, saloon, Any good ?

Post by SLOW ITAL » Tue Apr 15, 2014 6:49 pm

Hi guys,
Found this one,

mk2 marina saloon 1.3 auto, sdl, 1978.
38000 miles 1 owner [was a 3 month old demonstrator when he bought it].
Body plate says M E 4 SKS 0177151 M.
Looks in resonable nick, non starter not run for 4 years, last mot 2008.
unmolested looks genuine
might dip my toe in with this one,
but no experience with Auto's,

What can you tell me about this 1?
I'e how popular are autos, are they worth saving,
whats a resonable price he wants 3 figures, told him no chance,

YOUR VIEWS APPRECIATED

Three figures good, four figures bad.

Auto or manual is a personal choice. My modern car is an auto, so I wouldn't be put off by it. Many people have never driven an auto and don't trust what they don't know.

Gil

ME4SKS is a Mk2 4 door Super Delux built between October 1975 and June 1978, when SDL was rebadged L.

The first chassis number in 1978 is 167131M

So early 1978 is about right.

Go for it Gil, Autos are getting rarer all the time in 1.3 form, most that sell seem to end up in the hands of the Minor boys.

If you don't like the auto box you could always convert it to manual but everybody I have spoken to who drives an auto Marina say that they drive nicely.

i think if these cars are within reasonable distance, its always worth the fuel/time for a look, even if its to take a few pics/details...we had a Mk1 1300 coupe as a family car years ago, and the auto box seemed to suit the 1300 ;)
