Settling an argument

Post by dialup_2001 » Thu Apr 17, 2014 3:54 pm

Please could someone confirm as to whether or not the Marina ST was ever available to buy as a new car from showroom and whether it was special order or not.

Many thanks in advance.

The ST was always a Dealer option from new but only available from official ST dealers, of which there were about 20 or so throughout the country, mine came from Patrick Motor Group of Bournemouth, they built 4 that I know of 3 1300`s and 1 1800TC (all Coupes).
So basically the answer to your question is Yes, but.....they were usually done to order by recognised Dealers.

No, I was right!

Are there any other special models? I know the ST had a whole brochure of upgrades.

Other Special models were obviously the Jubilee (1973, 2000 cars to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Morris) then later on came the 1300LE which was so popular the initial 2000 planned was increased to 2500, these were on sale in 1977, then you could get a 1300 and 1800 "Special" in Mk2 form for a couple of years, but these were always an option so not really a limited edition like the other two.
There were other obvious special editions like the Marauder Estate, but they were made by a coachbuilder and as far as I know only a couple were built, then there were the Suntrekker Pick/ups with a detachable rear caravan, Suntor Campers, Mumford Convertibles, ST built their own V8 Pick-up, then there were the ST Rally cars and I think the last special production car would have been the very nicely trimmed out Ital SLX ;)

I stand corrected Paul..60 years ;) , they were very popular and yes I`m pretty sure they made the planned 2000, when you think how many are left compared to ordinary TC`s , there are loads! :-D
