What did you do to your Marina today?

Ahh thats well annoying when your waiting on parts... or bolts in your case

lol yeah the oil filter downwards I've found annoying too! I don't like starving the engine of any oil...

Had quite a good day on the Marina today, had the sump off replaced the two half moon shaped seals, and noticed that the sump lips were not squashing against the seals, so i pinched them together nice and firmly. Put new ( hope this was the reason for my oil leak and not the rear crankshaft seal ) Haven't had the car running long enough yet because of it getting late and the neighbors and all that palarva. But ill check tomorrow morning if theres any more leaks still.

Had the crankcase off, cleaned it all up so it can breathe again. brand new crankcase oil seal fitted along with case gasket.

Used that Hermalyte Red stuff, i've heard its one of the best sealents to use.... £6.50 for a 40ml tube but sometimes you got to say sod the expense i guess.

All been genuine Payen gaskets and seals too, so hopefully they'll do the life of the car.

Put a new exhaust strap from the muffler up to the body again as my other one had come clean off.

Got half way through replacing my off-side front wheel bearings and decided to call it a night at midnight.

I really hope it doesn't leak or it will be engine out time over the next week or so.....

New brake discs on fitted on A reg opaline 2.0 ital, R/H old disc developed a 2 inch lip on the inside and outside of pitting and rust(bloody cheap discs)




the L/h side disc wasn't as bad as the right hand side but changed aswell
mintex discs fitted so hopefully last a bit better then the brake engineering ones which were fitted

Curious about the wear pattern, Barry. I would have expected to see a very small unworn section on the outer edge of the disk, but it looks to me like there's a large unworn area (am I seeing that right?) - it almost looks like the pads amd/or calipers are "offset" toward the spindle? Is that normal?

passed its mot only a few weeks ago no problem on the brake test but I had a set of green stuff pads to try so when I changed pads over I noticed the wear on the discs,just cheap crappy discs made by brake engineering,they don't seem to last long before they corrode up,this the second set of these ive had to change
the pads have been working on the whole of the disc for some reason this one has corroded badly
the l/h side wasn't as bad
this is the L/H side

hopefully by fitting better quality discs shouldn't have a problem

I have been using a Ramair on my B Series engine. Are you using bellmouths inside the filter, to smooth the airflow? It makes the acceleration more progressive.

Also the foam should be washed to get rid of the dust and re-oiled every 12 months. I have been using Castrol motorcycle filter oil in a spray can. Don't use too much as it will drain out in the following weeks onto the exhaust manifold. Guess how I found that out?

Went to the autojumble and show at queen Elizabeth country park in Hampshire, then git stuck horrific traffic near Petersfield, and got very very vapour locked, just about kept her going. Think the condenser has gone again, as she broke down at rownhams, and the points are burnt to hell, so thats my job for tomorrow evening. Electronic ignition is looking more and more likely- any recommendations? Was speaking to a chap today who said a metro dizzy 84 on was a good upgrade.

Not much at the jumble as far as I could see (woman being a little difficult). A set of dolly sprint wheels caught my eye but not my wallet at £100 with spacers, a Philips in car record player for £350 was not a bad buy for someone (I already have one that cost me £40) and there was a gorgeous Packard project for sale, although a little out of my price range at £5250.

Lee not too bad, use the B series engine and chassis brackets as they are the right size. Use the O series bush and the cup that sits over them.

On the B series bracket for the voided bush, cut the extra angles off until it looks like the other side. Drill all 4 brackets to take the O series bushes and Robert is a close male relative.

The O series brackets are too big to fit the B series block, as the O series block is narrower, I know I tried them first.

Just checking the docs to my Marinas at the weekend and have managed to let the MOTs lapse .. so all booked in today for Tests.....and just dropped em off.. here's hoping... I've checked em over and couldn't see anything thats a obvious Fail. i know the exhaust on the saloon has a very small blow but thats about it.. wish me luck will update later when i collect them

How many in for MOT is that Eamonn? Must cause a bit of bafflement for you MOT guy's more normal customers Hope they all went through OK

I've been leak chasing in the saloon- when I got it it was wet inside, I assumed mostly due to the (badly perished) screen seal. It's hid under a cover all winter but I had new screen seals put in the other week and I left it out to see if it would stay dry- no such luck, so I dried it out again and did the hose test, water pouring in around the screenwash jet on the driver's side, couldn't see where it was coming in on the passenger side but did notice that the wiper bung was a bit split. Both bungs and screenwash jets taken out, cleaned up and refitted with a generous helping of Tiger Seal and, fingers crossed, the front footwells appear dry after today's thorough testing (hose not required...)- although I will replace the bung. The rear footwells were also a bit damp, but I just assumed it was running back. The passenger side is now dry, but there was a puddle in the driver's side- right in the centre of the car, immediately behind the driver's seat (despite it being on a slight backwards slope). Thoroughly baffling- the obvious answer is the sunroof, but it's all dry to the touch with no staining on the headlining. I have some "Captain Tolleys" so I'll attack the sun roof with that and see what happens!

Oh, and the front sidelight that had a cracked lens (now replaced) and was full of water when I bought it is once again looking like it could house a goldfish... roll on summer eh
