My First Marina,what about yours?
The first was as you can see a 1.3 mirage grey, rokee dash board, scrapped when the clutch went. The second 1.8 in damask, one owner from new, swapped with cash for a 2.8 GL Granada.
If you're wondering the young lady with the 1.8 is my wife in our courting days, looking sad because the car, known as smiley was being swapped for the ford.

Re: My First Marina, what about yours?
My first Marina was a mk2 1977 saloon in bright orange! It was originally blue but someone thought orange would be better. I paid £100 for it around ten years ago and after a years worth of welding it never missed a beat in the three or four years I had it. It was a great car. Does it still exist out there?

Re: My First Marina, what about yours?
My first Marina was HVG 84N, a 1.3 SDL in white and rust. Bought it from Mann Egertons in Lowestoft with a three month warranty for £400 (which was quite a bit for an old Marina in 1983!). The warranty paid for itself when the fuel tank dropped out (literally!) two weeks after getting it; thank you ME, brand new fuel tank! It lasted a year in my ownership until the front chassis legs allowed the engine to do an impression of a Dolly Sprint engine - once welded up, it got moved on and the replacement was my Dad's 1.8 Special for £1000! I have a piccy somewhere of it... must dig it out.
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

Re: My First Marina, what about yours?

Not my pic but taken from a Scouse photographer on the net.
The location is correct (Windsor St Liverpool), the car is correct (DL with raised back end) The date and time of day is too.Autumn 82 late afternoon, on my way home
I even remember the guy taking the pic and being paranoid thinking he was a 'dole snooper' !
So im fairly certain that this is a happy coincidence....
Just cant see the number plate MJP149K.Mar '72. Early 1.3 drums all round. Was very rusty but my first car and liberator from the shackles of boring home life! I took loads of pics of this car but they all seem to have gone. The car itself was written off by a Bread van whilst I was on the way to Insure my JPS Capri. Subsequently sold to a mate for £15 and hand painted and TC wheels fitted. Lived for a year or 2 after that until the main chassis members collapsed with rust.

The Guy himself must be a secret Marina fan. Plenty of scrappers in his other pic/albums too

VMG577M 1974 1.3 SDL
This picture was taken 1 week after we had completed a re-shell from a 36K mile car that had been left in a shed and looted of bits. It was a great uncle's car originally and we should have kept it's identity but someone had nicked the vin plate along with the engine gearbox and drivehafts. Wierd.
Myself and my brother camped outside the shed and worked for two weeks solid swapping bits over and sorting it out. Great memories.
After the accident, we bought it back off the insurance company and got it fixed (not very well) and resprayed it (also not very well). My brother ran it for another few years as a daily but it was almost using as much oil as petrol so it was taken off the road for an engine rebuild. It never went back on the road and has lived in the corner of two of my garages for the last 25 years. I've been gathering bits to sort it out but the biggest thing I need is time.
Had a pageant blue Mk3 1.3 auto saloon after this which I bought with a badly dinged in rear quarter. The car cost me £125 and a new rear quarter from the local BL dealer was also £125. Prepped it up and welded it on and sprayed it with a few cans of holts aerosols, ran it for 4 years or so and went everywhere in it. Had a Mk2 1.8 SDL coupe that could oversteer on demand and a late 1.3 Ital that revved to 8K @ 115mph on a private road.

The green coupe and blue saloon were mine.
1974 White 1.3 Super Coupe, lots of Alfas....
Re: My First Marina, what about yours?
My first (and only) marina is actually pretty well documented on here already...
A 1.3 SDL with the worlds worst paint job. It had been languishing in a lockup in fullham for about 12 years. The guy who owned it had fallen out with his mum or something over it and needed to move it on or something like that...
I took a gamble and it turned up totally unseen on the back of a lorry for something like £650 all in with the transportation fees.
Spent a few months restoring it and getting it roadworthy, did IIRC around 600 miles in it and sold it on for someone else to enjoy.
I recall that when I took what I'd spent on the car and getting it roadworthy from the selling price excluding insurance and petrol I was down the grand sum of 9 quid.
Here it is having passed it's first test in 12 years...

Re: My First Marina, what about yours?
I bought my first Marina in 1984(ish), a 1973 Super Coupe, Australian assembled single carb OHC 1750. I think the colour was called "Country Cream", with a brown side stripe (a trimmed-down version of the "Starsky and Hutch" stripes
, that went just a little way up the C-pillar
).
