Prices are on the rise  - asking NZ$3,000 (1,500 quid UK) for an 1800 auto saloon (plus spare), $4,000 for a mint pickup, $5,000 for a 1750 Super saloon, $5,500 for a mint 1300 Coupe.

I currently have 2 Mk3 saloons that are seriously rusty and on the brink of being write-offs.

It occurs to me that for $3000 (see above ad..) I could have two seemingly rust-free bodied saloons that I could easily turn into Mk3's by swapping all the trim and running gear.

I figure it would be much cheaper than trying to repair the rust problems my Mk3's have.

What do you guys think.?

I think that it is a very good excuse for buying more Marinas.

Seriously though, if your scrappage plan meant that all the re usuable parts would be lost then it would be a shame.

Of course what would you then do with all the Mk2 parts, that you liberate in the process. Also another question, is there a difference in value between Mk2s & Mk3s which are worth more, an original Mk2 or a Mk2/Mk3 upgrade?

Do these Mk2s have anti-roll bars? Apart from the O-series engine, bumpers, taillights, and column stalks, how much of the trim and running gear is different? Or do the differences run deeper?

Dashboard and wiring loom, door cards, seats, possibly headlining, tail lights, blah blah blah.

Shitloads actually - but only if you really want it to be a Mk3.
It would not take as much work to just make it look like one.
No -the Mk2's do not have the sway bars, they have different rear brake adjusters (on some..), may have different parts on the front suspension - because people just fitted anything.

Really - the Mk2's on Trademe just represent body shells to me.
I would strip them completely and fit everything from a donor Mk3.
Then I would need to paint them to the correct Mk3 colour to preserve my original paperwork.

Actually - I'm fast going off the idea...

Although I have just been offered the pair for $2000 and a friend wants one of them.
Damn.!

I always thought the Mk3 was just a "do minimum" cosmetic facelift, and carried over the Mk2 dash and interior. Sounds like between BL and NZMC, they managed to change just about everything for the NZ Mk3  .

Thought the Mk2 got sways bars in the UK - wonder if NZMC didn't tick that box for their Mk2 CKD packs? :o
