Fetched "Posh Bird " Friday, she's coming for a sleep over for a few day's till she hits the catwalk at Gaydon on the 22nd Aug.
While she's here I'll have a play with her headlamps (naughty don't tell Richard ), & see if we can fix em.
Richard was changing a bulb in n/side spot lamp (it wasn't as bright as the other ) when there was a puff of smoke from the dashboard area & they went out,
With a chat over the phone we got them all back except h/light flash, but are still intermittent.
Probably burnt those points again.
Its even worse on the mk 3, because those spots for the h/light flash add about another 8amps through the dipp switch, so thats about 16 amps + on main beam its too much so lets have a look.
The spot light bulbs are same wattage so why is n/s dull, check connections remove earth & harness from clips,&found the insulation &plastic covering on blue n white main beam wire worn away & touching the bodywork. probably not making good connection just bleeding some of the voltage off dimming the bulb,
Must of disturbed it whilst changing the bulb, made better connection but with no fuse in h/light cicsuit its gone to the next weekest point , that dip switch.
I'm disconnecting these &wiring them separately through a rellay, just using the b/white as the trigger.
The burnt bit about 6" long did go to the n/s spot light, sothe rest of the wires n/s are ok.
Right done that, lights nice .& bright now, still intermittent &no head light flash.
have a look tomorrow.
Saturday
steering wheel off ( mind my teeth) indicator switch off leave plugged in, test.
power reaching h/lt blue connection , but not getting through, its melted the plastic a bit ¬ reaching ajacent connector.
cleaned up &put a bit of solder on , filed flat (disconnected battery of course) tested ,ok.
used small key files to dress points & reset, much more positive now. refit everything, test ok.
posh bird has been admiring Gabbi's bonnet light & wantsd 1 like it so we found her1 & a lights on warning buzzer, we also refitted her old bonnet light in the boot, so she's very pleased .
I'll e mail the photos to Ben, pehaps he''ll put them up for me. Posh bird & gabbi hav gone to bed now.
