What did you do to your Marina today?

Took the pickup out for a drive and clocked up the big 50K miles in the process.

Started work on reconditioning a spare pickup propshaft and decided that life is too short to fight with UJ circlips. Having read Uncle Frank's recommendation, I drove over to St Neots to Bailey Morris to drop it off with them.

Interesting company, they stock the Marina/Ital/Dolomite centre bearings etc. The sliding spline on mine is so worn that the prop goes 'clonk' as I pull away. They have new sliding splines on the shelf and so can rebuild a complete Marina prop from end to end. They also have the double tube 'cushion drive' front section in standard lengths, so they can even replace that. The guy was telling me that they stock the cushion drive tubing as Ricardo Engineering use them to make up drives for their engine test bed work.

Most of their work is for trucks and farm machinery, but they are happy to do anything for the right price.

My refurb will be £180, for three new UJs, new centre bearing and dynamic balancing. The splined section on the prop I took over is OK, it's the one on the car that is bu**ered.

No postage because I dropped it off and can pick it up myself.

Wow, 30 years to clock up 50k miles. A few weeks ago I watched the wife's 6-year-old Honda tick over the 100k km - time to flick it on...

Took CVF for it's MOT and it passed  Advisories for front brakes fluctuating- recently had some issues with the car pulling to the right, I sanded down the leading edge of each right hand front shoe and it solved that so think a bit of sanding down the inside of the drums and the rest of the shoes should sort the fluctuating, also got an advisory for a leak on the exhaust, unsurprising as it is a stainless Escort (I think) exhaust which has been cut down and welded together
