where to get new/recond. your old calipers

Have been trying to buy some calipers from uk last 6 months as my stock have run out . No luck . I can get them recond. here in norway but uk is normally 1/3 of the price compared to norway for this . Problem is freight to uk of the old calipers (cost a small fortune). I can get the finished calipers shipped to a uk adress but wouldnt be able to bring my old ones over beofre "next time in the uk" . .

So the question remains what do you guys do ?? where to but /recond. your old units

A friend of mine works at a parts shop and he used to be able to get them easily but not so nowadays. Too many people bought them without sending their old ones back so now the supply has virtually dried up.

I've had a few of my calipers done recently at my local motor factors, only a two day turn around and they come back nicely coated with all new seals and pistons etc.

Have you considered reconditioning your own calipers? Below is a kit to recon a set of calipers:-

I recently reconned an old set of calipers for the now scrapped SDL with new seals I had in stock as a temporary measure as the pistons would have needed replacing later.

The most difficult part I find is removing the bleed nipple Without breaking it, a week and plus gas usually does the trick.

yes i did one set not anting to shell out for proff. help - the price in norway for have ONE recond proffesionally is about 130 GBP
problem is that i had to put back some lightly scored pistons - but thanks for the link - piston and seals seems to be the ay to go ..
will set up a "rig" with an old MC and pedal to get the old pistons out , makes sense when doing so many ..

Brown brothers used to refurb mine but not used em for years now. Can you get spurious upgraded calipers for the marina? I know not cheap, cost me shy of £500 to fit a pair of twin pot ally calipers for my capri 2.8.

Brown Brothers no longer exist was swallowed up into Unipart Automotive who went bust some site now operating as Andrew Page Local factors should be able to get Brake Engineering in Wrexham to recon your old units though
