Yeah - at last the clutch has freed on the Marina. Followed your advice guys, got it 70mph on the speedo (while on stands) tried it a few times and about to give up. But thought no one more try, 70 again - slammed brakes and yanked handbrake and pop it freed.
still a slight issue with clearance but I wasn't dressed to start climbing underneath so will leave that for another day.
Just chuffed it's free. Treated it to 2 new tyres, so all that's left is a small bit of welding /service and a clean. (Oh and the small matter of the mot)

Keep us posted.
What is the clearance problem? What clearing what exactly?

Hi Chris, I didn't change the clutch pipe and this leaking. I'm hoping that when I change the pipe and rebleeed that all will be well.MarinaCoupe wrote:Keep us posted.

At present it's crunching when I select gears, I'm planning to go back down to work on it probably Wednesday nite. Cars about 15 mile from my house hence why progress can be slow.
is the clutch arm /rod adjustable? If so what's the expected free play?

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
There is no adjustment on the clutch system. When correctly bled, the slave should hold the clutch release bearing against the clutch cover. If it's crunching then either the master, pipe or slave is leaking from somewhere. The tell-tale will be yellowish white crud, where the leak is, or where gravity drains the leaked fluid down to.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Had the week off to get some more welding done on REW but typically it chucked it down all week...
Managed to get some bits done on BOP the white saloon tonight though. Stripped out around four miles of extra cable and fancy gauges etc, also rustproofed the inside of the doors and made a start on putting the door cards etc back on. Also tried to get some of the pinstripes off although some are being rather stubborn! Put the lower dash back in place, just got to dig out some dash trim for it and a black speaker grille. Will hopefully get a chance tomorrow to clean the extra thick mould off the door pulls

Josh, I've always found petrol quite good for removing unwanted stickers and pinstripes. Take care!

Warm it with a hair dryer ( am sure you have one!)
Not a heat gun though as that would be to hot and take the paint off!
White spirit is good for removing sticky and won't take to much of the old paint off.
Don't use the modern white spirit as that's rubbish you want the full fat stuff like the good old days

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Thanks guys
It's had a blowover respray in the past which was poorly prepped so wouldn't be surprised if the paint comes off whatever method I use. Can't say I am too bothered though as it will never be a show car!
By the way, if anybody wants any 70s pinstripes there is a box full of NOS ones in the boot
Similarly there is also a set of gauges up for grabs- oil pressure, water temp, a clock and an ammeter. No idea if they work or not. Fortunately most of the extra wiring was scotchlocked onto the original loom so I was able to take all the add on bits off easily. Even the dynamo regulator is still in place so it should be easy to ditch that alternator and go back to a proper power system. Every car I have owned with an alternator has had trouble with it somewhere along the line, dynamos last forever!
