Inner wheel arch protectors

Post by Chevy Marina » Mon Feb 08, 2016 7:50 pm

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and I'm restoring/modifying a 1974 Coupe previously owned by Rob Hadfield.
I'm in the process of repairing the inner wheel arches front and back, (you know the places I'm sure) cutting out rust and welding in new metal.
As I was doing this yesterday I got to thinking how I could protect these areas from future rot and remembered Rob telling me that he was thinking of fitting Mondeo plastic inner wheel arches.
I have been doing a bit of inerweb searching this evening and not come up with much. Has anyone fitted plastic inner wheel arch potectors from a modern car with any success?

Cheers

Graham

There was a guy that made some out of aluminium. Shouldn't be too hard to do with a bit of thought. You could always bond them in with PU sealer...

Welcome aboard. Nice to hear the car is getting sorted out.

I know someone who used VW Golf ones, not sure which MK Golf though. Shouldn't be too hard to make some by bonding some plastic together but would probably be more expensive than buying some out of a scrapyard and modifying them to fit.

Hi Josh,
That's what I figured, just wondered if anyone had tried any before I raid the scrap yard, I would have thought Mondeo ones would be too big, Golf sound more like it, or maybe Focus or Fiesta

Yes anything with similar sized wheels should suit. Also random smaller cars- small Seats, Fiats (Puntos, Seicentos etc), Renault Clio maybe?

Right I'm off outside to have a look at our Seicento

Must admit it's something I have been planning on doing to the one I use regularly for a while.

Pretty sure In the latest Practical Classics they are making wheel arch liners!

I will check when I get home.

The March issue of PC they are using corrugated plastic 'Antinox' sheet or Correx is its trade name. Apparently available from DIY shops.

Brian Viney on here (Martec) has them fitted in the front wings. He did I think use Princess liners but are probably just as hard to find in scrap yards now.
