Black and Silver Number Plates

Post by david painter » Fri Feb 10, 2017 1:30 pm

I Today have had an email, from DVSA previously VOSA. Saying that the Class 4 ( cars) MOT Inspection manual, has been updated and it is now legal to display black and silver number plates, on any registered before 1st January 1976 for MOT purposes.

Thanks for confirming Dave. The black and silver plates cut off date will move each year in line with the 40 year rolling Historic Vehicle tax free exemption.

It is an unintended outcome of the Historic Vehicle taxation rules being badly written.

Nice to know it is legal to have them but I think I will stick with the plates which are still original on my car. Plus the Corgi model won't match if I change them

Chris you are probably right on the way historic legislation. Takes a while for DVSA to catch up with such things, I haven't read the new testing manual yet. Today had a email from them, about it. Will check what it says when I log to do a MOT, next week and post what it says about the subject.
