Automatic transmission carb linkage
I've been thinking about converting my Austin Marina 1.8 to twin carbs. Due to the location of the brake master cylinder on the North American spec, I would use the Moss cold air intake for the air filters. It has an automatic transmission, which complicates things. Does anyone have pictures of the kickdown cable linkage on the twin carb set up? Thanks to this forum I've figured out that the outer part of the cable is attached to the carb heat shield, but I can't find any information as to the linkage to the carbs. The Marina parts book lists a bracket but has no other details.
Any information - particularly pictures - would be appreciated.
It's amazing how much this car distracts me!

Re: Automatic transmission carb linkage
2.7mm thick plate (probably an imperial size) 12.5mm wide (yep, half an inch then)
The butterfly spindle end is about 16.5mm to the INSIDE of the first 90 degree bend, then my bracket measures about 32mm from the OUTSIDE back edge of the plate near the butterfly (edge of plate near the carb, not the nut) to the INSIDE of the next bend to pick up the cable, then from the INSIDE of the fold to the end of the plate to pick up the cable is near-as-dammit 30mm. Not sure what you'd do about the twiddly bit for the cable, unless you've already got similar for your single carb.
Mine almost looks like it was made by someone in a shed. Maybe BL had someone in the tool shop knock them up for the few twin carb 1.8 autos they sold.

Re: Automatic transmission carb linkage
I just wondered if you have a heat shield like this. I'm assuming (although I don't know for sure, having currently only this one Morris Marina!) that all original twin-carb heat shields were the same, regardless of whether the tab to mount the outer kick-down cable was used or not. The heat shields currently offered by Burlen Fuel Systems for HS4 carbs seem to be a two-piece effort with a linking strap, going by their photos, and are a completely different pressing.

Mick, it should be the same as an MGB heat shield, they also came as manual and auto versions, try checking one of the MGB suppliers websites.

Re: Automatic transmission carb linkage
Its not me that needs it Chris, its okeh in Canada with his conversion of a single carb 1.8 auto to twin carb auto. I just took some pictures of my heat shield while mine was in a state of disassembly and posted them so he could see what was originally fitted, in case he didn't have anything like it (I don't recall a heat shield on my Mk1 auto). As far as I know, the MGB parts suppliers sell the same heat shield as Burlen. Always willing to be proven wrong though!

Re: Automatic transmission carb linkage
I've just had a quick look at Moss Europe and Rimmer Brothers. Rimmer Brothers nothing. The closest visual resemblance between the pressed tin heat shield on my car and something you can buy new now, seems to be this one on the Moss website, http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/heat-shiel ... h3607.html though typically from my experience of using websites like Moss, as opposed to that of using the most popular Mini websites for the last seven years, there seems to be at least two very similar items for sale for HS carburettors with no explanation as to why you would need one over the other, or why there are many more options you can choose as a heat shield for an MGB and (other than carb type) what you would gain from each kind. There isn't a tab that I can see either, that would take the kick-down cable, but it should be a fairly easy matter to fabricate one.
