Always wondered from my Marina days when you bought a gasket set and it said it was a ‘Conversion’ set what was it converting? Thanks. Never understood- sample on eBay now for reference:

Bottom end and timing cover gaskets were always known as conversion set ie all the gaskets required to remove and install crankshaft as opposed to just the sump gasket

Thanks and that’s interesting. I had several sets just to get a couple of the gaskets I wanted; had loads of unused odd bits which are long gone!
