Oh the irony!

Post by wfb » Wed Apr 01, 2020 8:20 am

Back in December of last year I put an advert in the wanted section for my next marina. I had a good idea of what I was after and needed a car that was on the road and in tidy condition ready for this years show season .

I dissmissed four good project cars that were offered to me on the grounds that I just wouldn't have the time to get them road worthy due to work comittments and busy family life. Fast forward a couple of months and we now find ourselves in lockdown.

Suddenly I have all the time in the world, my work diary is empty for months, the family is all at home permently and no visiting parents is allowed.

I have an empty garage thats all kitted out ready for work and wishing I hadn't been so picky about the car I wanted. Right now a project is exactly what I need! The irony of the situation is not lost on me.

I don't think travelling the length of the country to collect a Marina would pass as a nessesary jouney at the present moment when there are so many people battling this terible virus.

Stay safe and positive.

The motor trade seems to be an essential service at the moment, with garages open for servicing etc. Likewise all the couriers seem to be going great guns. Try a request on Shipley to see if you can get a project transported, it would likely be cheaper than hiring a trailer and driving if it wasn’t for the lock-down.

Yes a good friend of mine is a classic vehicle recovery specialist and he is still working so I suspect the same applies to most who work in this field.

No excuse then - buy and transport one of the projects you mentioned. That’ll give you plenty to do.

I don't want this thread to turn into a do's and don'ts of the corona virus out break as we all have our own opintions on what we can do and can't under the lockdown conditions.
I know it could be done in theory but I don't really feel comfortable having someone out on the roads on my behalf, when accidents can happen and our emergency services are already stretched beyond capacity. If things change in a few weeks and the restrictions are relaxed then I will most probably take the plunge. I will have time over the summer months as I am self employed plumber and jack of all trades I find my diary empty for the next few months and with schools closed to the end of August at least and no child care available I am going to be a stay at home dad for most of the summer so I will have time on my hands. People are scared and do not want tradesmen working in there home and to be honest I am now a bit nervous about being in people houses even with PPE just incase I pick something up and then bring it in to my own home and family. I just hope my savings last long enough until the government help kicks in.
Anyway enough of the worrying thoughts and lets look forward to coming out the otherside of this. In the mean time anyone thinking of selling a Marina please send me the details.

Know what you mean, i've got the car to work on, trouble is the garage its in is 5 miles away so its a no go...
I'm sure many others are in the same boat as well. plenty of free time & trying to find ways to fill it...
