yes very true Larry. They do say the good die young and that car was a belter that never seen a welders torch. The original paint was in excellent condition apart from a front wing that was badly resprayed and a blemish on the bonnet. If I had owned the car I would have only painted the wing and bonnet and it would have been a very original car

Guys don't get too upset about the fate of this ital. I know the guy who bought it yesterday and it is not getting broken up for a minor donor. His brother is looking for a cheap classic as a daily runner and the ital fits the bill. There is talk of a diesel conversion on the car at some point but all it is at the moment is talk. If the engine is getting changed or the car sold on I have told him to tell me and I can pass on the information to marina enthusiasts. The guy himself is into old fords, mainly mk1&2 escorts and has little interest in marinas, itals and especially minors. As I left the autojumble last night the car was going to be used as a cheap daily classic runaround and if the situation changed in any way he would let me know.
Well that’s some good reassurance Barry, when the guy has a good look over the car and if he intends on doing the right thing then I doubt he will do an engine transplant. The engine in the Ital is totally spot on and as tight as a 22,000 mile engine should be.
The thing that really gets me is Larry and I donated parts to this car and Raymond negotiated its entrance into preservation with its previous owner and he pulled out all the stops to get the car where it is today. Raymond wanted that car for himself as we had discussed this car a couple of years ago but unfortunately due to financial commitments and the amount of money Ray splashed out on the General there was not enough money to acquire the Ital at that time. Ray made the unfortunate mistake at taking someone at face value and thought he was doing the right thing by offering the car to Dave (The owner who punted it yesterday).
Within weeks of Dave acquiring the car it was destined to be sold on at a high value which thankfully backfired. The price was eventually lowered to a very affordable and realistic price but no takers came forward. The Ital is a really good motor and we were hoping to retain the car within any of the 2 marina clubs but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be…

I cannot comment on the Ital or the previous owner or about experiences and dealings you guys had with him.
All I can say if it had not been for help that I received from you fellas my pickup would still have been a basket case.
Your experiences may have left a bad taste but it has not soured what it is all about at the end of the day true enthusiasts help each other.

God knows why anybody would rather have an Allegro (in bits, rusting away outside in a driveway) over an Ital that’s practically mint and virginal in the respect that’s it not even bedded in yet? I didn’t realise that there was such a HUGE Allegro following in this part of the country. Maybe I should open my eyes more in the rally fields up here in future. I don't have anything against the Allegro and I think it’s a nice car but it’s not my first British car of choice from BL. One thing is for sure is that I get the feeling that the late Ital owner won’t be made welcome in the Ecosse camp in the future even if he had a Marina that’s “minted out its treeâ€￾ as the chief clansman would put it!
Out of all the negative experiences we encounter it just weeds out the good from the bad and after every set back we encounter the friendship /trust within the group just grows even stronger!

Whats the old adage, never mix business with pleasure!?!? As some of you know, I'm turning into a pro car trader, but I would never pull anything like that, posing to friends as someone who wants the car for myself when all I was doing was trying to make a profit, I think that actually sucks, getting you to do all that MOT prep work for virtually free then selling it. Something I actually dread sometimes when selling a car, I get one thats looking nice and someone comes along to buy it and I know that it will get nothing but abuse, you know the type, I was scared of that when I was selling my Capri, I'd looked after that car for 9 years, fortunately it was someone who was fairly enthusiastic about it that bought it in the end, I had visions of some ruffian coming up looking for "an auld motur tae bomb aboot in", I had one come up to me offering me £250 for it (it ultimately sold for £1200) and trying to tell me that was all it was worth, needless to say, he was told what he could do! I know you can't really control who buys them, but I didn't want that for my Capri.
The chap never made any money out of the car at all Joseph, he lost about £150 on it and Larry/Ray and myself lost some bits, me being the heaviest casulty in the parts front. Once you get to know the guy he is actually ok but unfortunatly he has blown it big time with Ecosse. No second chances i'm afraid. Once bitten ........
