Sealed Batteries

Is it advisable to fit a sealed battery to a Marina or any car fitted with a dynamo. Does it not tend to gas a bit more causing the battery to need topping up. It was a regular job years ago to regularly top up your battery.It was one of the jobs in a service but not now.

I personally can't see any reason why you shouldn't use a sealed battery with a dynamo, as long as it is being regulated correctly then it will only deliver what the battery requires.It's also one less job to remember, which has got to be a good thing.

My only experience with a sealed battery was in my T160 Trident motorcycle.
It was a gel-type battery, and the shop insisted that they would do the initial charging and I should collect it the following day.
It worked fabulously from the start - electric start worked fine - and thats a very critical situation on these bikes - and I had the added insurance that nothing would spill if it fell over.
About 18 months later - having survived a winter layup without trauma - a fault occurred with the charging circuit, and the battery was run totally flat.
I was unable to recharge it at all.
I don't know if your 'sealed' battery is a gel-type or not, but I would not buy another if I thought that this could happen again.
It was an expensive battery, but enjoyed a rather short life - not my flavour I'm afraid.
I don't think that there would be any reason from the car's point of view why you shouldn't use one though.
