Ronnie's Alive!!

Post by ClaytonSpeed » Mon Jun 23, 2008 4:06 pm

A weekend is never a good one unless you are Marina'ing.. Poor old Jimbo has seen little rest since I have been living on the Wight Isle, we always seem to be busy with these old cars!

This weekend was no different. After sorting out a 1700 ital's timing and replacing Doris' dizzy I decided that we should have a go at getting my old faithful Black Tulip TC started and given the once over in preparation for an MOT. The car has been sat in storage for over two years after myself and Will got her saved from the council crusher and used it for a year.

I brought a new HD battery and some fuel then we set about connecting it all up together. We didn't have a coil so we pinched one from an old Metro 1300 Jim and his father-in-law broke up some weeks ago...

Everything connected fine, I need a new battery earth strap that is longer than a standard one since using the 063 HD battery but the Jubilee lent it's + cable for now. First turn in two years the fuel pumped through the inline filter and we checked for a spark.. Well more like a fireworks display! Somthing was not quite right but we continued on no less. SHE FIRED UP!!

It was good to hear the old gal even if she was missfiring all over the shop. I still don't think Jim has is hearing back in his right ear! Sorry mate! She made quite a loud backfire !

The car was not running it's best so with a change of the coil she ran sweet. Now all we need to do is rebuild the master cylinder and bleed the brakes!

Thanks lads! Yes it was a decent weekend and i was pleased with our progress. I was going to pop up this evening to survey the brakes but having done Marina's three or four days in a row I think I'll go tomorrow. =)

We took Ronnie up the farm track and I had forgot how lively these early TC's are! It bloody flies! Ah well better start rebuilding these self ajusting rear cylinders I guess...!

8) Well done Jimbo, looks like Ben has already been busy with the G3 compound i gave him..that rear quarter looks a bit darker than the rest  , putting them together like that sure shows the difference between Black Tulip and Met Police Blue!
