Joy.
Had some tuning issues with the red beast.
Was displaying classic "lean" symptoms - and as the engine seems to have very little compression, I was not getting the results I was hoping for when tuning it.
Today was about 30C, so it was pretty well warmed up when I returned from a quick trip over t'hill.
Decided I should be able to beat it, so I hit it 3 ways.
- I deliberately set the mixture half a turn too rich - most I could get without affecting the idle speed.
- I removed the suction chamber and piston, stripped it and replaced the piston spring with the strongest one I could find amongst my bits.
- I filled the damper with heavy engine oil.
I took it for a quick test drive, and it seemed transformed.
However - the acid test is to get someone else to give a second opinion.
Sue likes manuals, and she knows when a car is going properly - so I figured her face would tell me whether I was on the money or not...
I think thats a "yes".
