More Insurance Questions

Managed to spend a couple of hours working on my estate today which is getting very close to being finished. When I got home my thoughts turned to getting it insured as it has been uninsured for the two years it has been getting rebuilt. Last time it was on the road I was paying £100.30 fully comp and unlimited mileage with foot man james. I used their website for a quote today with all the same details and it has come back with £180.00 limited to 3000 miles for some reason. After trying a few other companies Lancaster has come back the best at £119.00 again for 3000 miles but this is on a standard car as the websites don't do quotes on modified cars without phoning the companies. My car has been changed from auto to manual, has a tuned engine, lowered suspension with telescopic shocks, alloy wheels and numerous body modifications all of which I'm sure will increase the premium again.

I was wondering what companies other owners were using and what premiums they were paying, particularly the guys running modified cars. I'm not a boy racer or a high risk I don't think. I'm 37 years old, with full NCB on my daily driven vectra, no accidents or claims for nearly 20 years and have 3 points for an SP50 3 1/2 years ago.

Maybe I'm just being miserable and should shut up and pay up but I was surprised by the £80.00 price increase for less cover.

Try calling Footman James, I pay £132 fully comp with them on my Coupe with all the modification notified. I don't think the website does all the calcs properly.

Insurance quoting software only implements some of the business rules, or else they'd need supercomputers to get a figure before your session timed out.

Always speak to an assessor, ones from the specialists will know their onions.

I tried getting some quotes online, and most didn't even have Morris in their list :x :x , let alone Marina!

I've tried most of the 'classic' insureres over the years, but as the modifications became more advanced fewer would deal with me until 'Footman James' was the only one that would.

With full notification of ALL mods FJ charged me £183.15 in April - Unlimited Milage.

The unlimited milage came after a few years with them and also with the old Jaguar.

Some pratt in a white van ran into the back of our 8year old honda when stopped at a set of lights. FJ were very good and efficient in dealing with the claim.

i am also with footman james and i pay £219.90 for one policy with 3 cars on it with me and the wife limited to 3000 miles
all mods notified on my mk1 coupe which i use for rallying, all mods notified on my 2ltr 5 speed ital estate , and my standard mk3 saloon no other company can beat that i have done the usuall phoning around and now cant be bothered as have been with footman james for the last ten years .

I've always found Richardson Hoskens a good company, £90 comp, 6K with mods on my Ital. Mind you, I am now an old Fart, so.....
