Local colleges are a source of spares

With our local college asking for a show of old cars for their open evening, I have got to know the main lecturer and he was saying the other night that colleges were given old stock for the apprentices to take apart, reassemble and generally get experience of.

As modern cars have moved on in technology then the older vehicles and parts are just sent to the skip. I have seen the Marina coupe,1.8 1972 which has been dissmantled and repeatedly reassembled, sprayed and used. It was 'immaculate' when given to the college and is dry stored ( the car looked very good when I saw it a few weeks ago)but most things are loose or missing bits but the shell and engine seems OK plus vynil seats in good nick. I've asked to go back and photograph it and its possible they would sign it over to me with my signing a waver that without a rebuild it is not safe on the road (just mechanical work).

It is expected to be scrapped after christmas or in the summer, but they are also due to scrap carbs, electrical equipment and I'm hoping to cherrypick to save some of it, I don't have storage for too much. I'm also told that if I turn up in another marina I will be sleeping in it!!!!

In a long winded way I'm trying to say it may be worth us all aproaching our local tech colleges to save spares we are unaware of. The lecture has 2 V12 jaguar distributors that he saved because he liked the look of them and 2 brand new magnetos. The stuff being scrapped across the country is disgraceful but apparently they are obliged to go this way. You may be able to save some of this. I will

I can pay for pick up etc so you don't store them to long.
Not sure what would be any good though
