Don`t bother mate, put some lead additive in instead such as castrol valvemaster, or better still the Millers one, most engineers i`ve ever spoken to about those things say they are a complete waste of time

Big waste of space mate. Either get a head conversion or use castrol valve master. Make sure you get a decent machine shop tho.

My latest Marina got one of these fitted years ago by the pervious owner and the owner after him ran the car for years on unleaded. I am always unsure about these gizmos so I took the head off the car after I bought it and was amazed at how good the valves were, but I personally wouldn’t buy it and would recommend getting the head converted especially if you intend on keeping the car for a long time otherwise use castrol valvemaster

He has atually got loads for sale they start at £20.....
My marina is running lovely since I denied him of his lead no pinking etc....
soooooooooooo what head do I need to buy?

Just get yours converted mate. Find a free day then strip the head off. Cost is normallyt below £300 but well woth it

My marina only cost £75 of e bay....
It`s a shame to spend loads of cash , when it might have already been converted... :P
or is that wishfull thinking..... :?

lol i think the money you saved on your marina should go on the conversion - there was an unconverted marina on ebay a while back that went for over 700 squid! meaning you still save over 400 pounds! or something :roll:

Well I don't know.....unleaded or leaded heads I've been running my A+ on Sainsburys 4*LRP for the past 14 months now,took the head off after 6months for headgasket checked valves same time and found no signes of any abnormal wear,decoked and lapped valves back in engine runs sweet,just adjust timing to suit fuel and no pinking,so I'm more than happy with this solution

Valve recession into the head will take 10s of thousands of miles. My 69,000 B series had sunken valves despite a lifetime on leaded fuel, it just happens faster without leaded fuel.
I do recommend having your head converted (and the one on the car), I find that the biggest thing is that I can drive into any forecourt in the land and fill up, without worrying about addatives etc. Economical? probably not, pay back will be years rather than months. Take the cost of a bottle of addative and work out how many miles it will last. Divide the cost of a bottle into £300 and take that number and multiply by the number of miles for a bottle and you have how many miles you need to do before you break even.
A better way of looking at it is that if you were to have your head decoked that could cost £150-£200 anyway with new valves. The extra is the true cost of the unleaded conversion. With many cars over 60,000 miles now a decoke would be sensible anyway.
