Spring Hangers
Hello Peeps,
My ever reliable Ital Pickup as just dropped on the o/s/r, on inspection it became clear that the front spring hanger had given up trying to support all of the heavy loads that I keep putting in the back, I quite often have her loaded down onto the bump stops. Does anyone out there know if the club supply these hangers or have I got to fab my own from scratch?
A worrying point of this is I have owned the pickup for almost 5 years now and it is my daily driver, it passed a PROPER MOT back in August with no problems. But on looking at the remains of the spring hanger there is evidence of a cobbled repair which must have been done before my ownership, I say cobbled but it must have been pretty good to go undetected all this time and 4 MOT's!
I'm going to the NEC on the weekend if that's any help.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Spring Hangers
£22.50 if they are the same for all models.

Not a Marina owner, built in 1985 from a 1974 1.8TC MOT failure.

Re: Spring Hangers
Yep the club do spring hangers, £18 or £22.50 with postage. At least mine was.
One word of warning, I got one and took it over to a mate of mine who restores cars for it to be fitted and he reckoned it would be a hell of a lot of work to fit the old one (about £150 and that's on mate's rates, another classic garage reckoned £2-£300) as it involves cutting the old one out completely. Instead I got the original one replated for £40....
If that doesn't put you off I'd be happy to sell you my club spring hanger for £22.50 including postage as it's not doing anything here.

Re: Spring Hangers
Thanks for all the replies, constant rain and working outside prevents me from getting on with the job! when I do get stuck into it I'll decide wether to repair what's already there or fit new. If I go down the new route I'll take you up on the the offer of your spring hanger Josh, it'll be next weekend before I get another chance to get underneath.
Cheers

Re: Spring Hangers
Just give me a shout when you've decided. Not the best weather for working on cars at the moment although thankfully it's stayed dry here today so I've spent most of my day being able to get on with a few jobs 8)

Re: Spring Hangers
Thanks for thee offer Josh, but when I finally did get the weather Gods on my side and got under to have a look, then I have to agree it's a much easier job to rebuild whats there rather than remove and replace, so I'm back mobile in my pickup again...

Re: Spring Hangers
No problem mate
If you've got a nice warm workshop, some way of supporting the rest of the car and the time to spend cutting the complete old hanger out and welding in the new then that's great but sadly most of us don't
