Winter Marina usage

Post by James1300 » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:04 pm

Hi all, who uses their Marina regularly over the cold months? Now by this I dont mean in the gritty slush but generally try to keep it moving and turned over quite a lot. I have been leaving my battery on trickle charge as it goes flat as a pancake and the lights and indicators are so dim and slow.

Hi James,
I do try to use my TC during the winter months, as I don't think it should be left standing for too long at a time.
I will not take it out of the garage when the roads are wet with a chance of salt on them, but I like to go for a drive of about 30 minutes minimum when the roads are dry and the winter sun is shining. This is usually enough to keep the battery 'topped up' and everything 'freed up'.

Winter Marina usage

Post by balmy » Sat Dec 17, 2011 5:35 pm

I normally use mine whatever the weather-it's even been out in the snow before! I just give it a good wash before putting it away. Usually once a month is good enough to keep things ok.

Mine went out today, also just got hold of a Ctek 3600 battery conditioner which you can leave on the battery for months and keeps the battery in as good as can be condition. I think it even does a discharge cycle and then recharge and checks the condition all the time.
If lead acid batteries go flat and are left to long in the flat state then they do tend to die.

Mine's my only car again at the moment and generally goes out once a week or more regardless of the weather, would have been out in the snow the other night but her indoors isn't feeling too great so we took her car, which has a rather more effective heater...

My only car and used whenever I need to be anywhere (every weekday) whatever the weather with whatever there is on the road.

Just keep it well rustproofed and use it, it is a car after all and a damned good car 8)

Hi
my marina mk3 1700 HL used all year round, stands outside
Battery sat on a piece of polystyrene and a piece on the side this helps the battery from sat on a cold chassis which causes battery drain.
Best regards

My van's been used all this winter no probs at all, but then it never does cause me any trouble and it lives outside. The coupe is away in the garage this winter though. Look after them and they are no bother.
