Winter rallying in -30

Post by Fille » Thu Feb 02, 2012 8:58 pm

Well, tomorrow we're off again for this year's winter rally in Jyväskylä. It's a 5-hour drive in the Marina, but this year with temperatures nearing -30 celsius. It has coped well before in -20, but I must admit I am a bit nervous as to how it will perform tomorrow. I have put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to blind off at least some of the cold. The back is full of spares and I will wear all the clothes I have.
Oh yes I have checked the antifreeze, it's good for -43.

It was -33! The Marina performed faultlessly. We had a slight oil leak - but we couldn't localize it and it didn't leak any more (yes there's still oil in the engine).
I have an engine pre-heater and without it I don't think it would have started. But now it started first time on both very cold mornings and eventually we got some heat in the cabin as well. I will post up some pictures later.
