HELP! (Probably wrong Borad; don't care!)

The Mid-Norfolk Railway at Dereham is running a 1980's Diesel Gala over the 4-6 May and muggins here has been asked to get some vehicles for display in a 'car park' sceneario. The event is three days, we have about twenty spaces per day and I'm trying to get a nice spread of types of car from late 60's to 1989. I don't think I can get my Ital ready in time (but I'll try); is there anyone interested in popping over for a 'park' and free ride to Wymondham on proper BR trains??? PM me.

V8 Supercars at Pukekohe, with Formula 5000s and MuscleCars . The driver of the pink Torana being mounted by the red Falcon was one of my colleagues .

No Marinas, though.

Sadly in this country, they'd rather chuck useful, reliable stock away and replace it with overpriced, overspecced and unreliable tat... the Irish are even worse; they're scrapping inter-city stock ten years newer than what I work on that had all the upgrades (power doors, better aircon, better wiring) to buy new trains with money they never had... no wonder they're broke.
This is the lump I've been playing with;

To be fair, we still use quite a lot of pretty ancient stock over here- the HSTs for starters (although they are of course re engined now, that's a fairly recent thing), but even seeing a 37 on the main line is a more common occurence than a Marina.

Would love to come along to this, but it's a bit of a treck unfortunately!Would be great to get the car parks full of everyday 80's motors, instead of the sea of 2 seaters and high end saloons that you usually get at shows

Ooohh, I do like a 37! Definitely my favourite when I used to go spotting, but closely followed my a pair of 20's on merry go round duties.

I'd love to come but otherside of the country and my engines in bits.

I think the Glos- Warks are doing something similar later in the year, will have to trundle along to get my banger blue fix.

We're very good at recycling - as well as the rebuilt carriage trains and locos, 20 years ago we imported 40 second-hand DMUs from Perth in Western Australia, gave them a makeover, and have now thrashed them to death.

We've been spending more money on upgrading suburban rail in the last 5 years, than in the previous 50 . Wellington's English Electric EMUs (dating from the early 1950s) have been replaced with Korean Rotem EMUs, and more have been ordered to replace the 1980s Hungarian Ganz Mavag EMUs.

We're currently electrifying the Auckland suburban network, and the carriage trains will be replaced by Spanish CAF EMUs, which will look very much like the NIR Class 3000.

With any luck, the carriage trains will go to Kilroy in Christchurch, where many of the quake displaced have relocated to surrounding townships that are on the existing railway lines (but haven't had commuter trains for decades ).

Just keep buying our butter and lamb , or we'll be in the poo like you know who.

Few shots from today. Being a late 80s day it would look wrong having a car park over-run with Marinas so I decided to use it as an excuse to take the 309 to a show (I like to think to myself it is nearly a classic!). With a bit more advertising this could turn into a good show (there were plenty of classics driving past!) great venue for it. Mike's Class 37 was great!









Malcolm Bradfield was also there in his coupe, and we were later joined by a Triumph Stag.

.... and Josh ended up being distracted by some 'period' radio sets...... That was Chris Cheney with the Stag; he lives near you. Have a chat with him about the controls on the 50; I'm sure he'd let you have a rootle about in there later in the year when its out of service (1960's electronics....... say no more squire!).
Anyhoo, major thanks to those who pitched in, I'll make sure its very well advertised next year and we'll try and fill the carpark with 'stuff'!!!
(BTW Josh, look under "DVB-T car" in Ebay and there are loads of TV adaptors...... )
