Hi All,
Started work on the Marina clutch, when I bought this I was told that the Master Cylinder had been rebuilt but not the slave.
When I looked at it I could see that the clutch hose looked new (it had new clips but that was it really) but not sure.
Anyways it was purchased with a non functioning clutch.
First things first, no visible fluid in the master cylinder and pedal drops to floor. As the Master was pretty easy to remove I did that first. Noticed no split pin on the pedal box so some tinkering had taken place. However bolts to the master cylinder looked untouched.
So - Master Cylinder off and new seal kit purchased, when removed - what fluid was in was filthy so I'm not sure that they did rebuild this (or having doubts)
The cylinder bore looked really good, so nothing more than a good clean, new seals, etc and rebuilt.
That's ready to go on.
Anyways reason for query is the slave cylinder, I've not had it on a ramp yet. And it's the 1.7 OHC mk3 model. I can feel the slave down below the manifold but it looks a sod to get to. Haynes book of lies doesn't really help and feeling how the slave fits it looks like it goes through the casting ?
As I suspect this will need new seals in - whats the best way to tackle this ?? any help greatly appreciated.
On a slightly different note - I sent my application off for the owners club t'other week - any ideas how long it usually takes to process ??
all the best, Si

Try this link for the 'How to on Clutch Slaves'

Check to see if your subs cheque has cleared. David processes them usually once a week as he has to work away from home a lot.

Re: Clutch Hydraulic help required
You could try changing the piston seal in the slave cylinder without removing it from the bell housing if this is suspect
push some rag in the bell housing cut out this will stop the piston dropping in there
remove the clutch fork/slave cylinder pin
if theres enough pressure in the hydraulics press the clutch pedal and if the piston is free enough it will pop out,if not you will have to try and move the piston from underneath with penetrating fluid and a screwdriver to move it until it come to the top of the slave cylinder and then remove it if the bore of the slave cylinder is ok just obtain a new seal kit.
if the slave cylinder bore is corroded up badly you may not get the piston out this way and the slave cylinder will have to be removed
best regards

Cheers for all the advice. That's great, this is my first BL car in over 20 years so I'm a little rusty when it comes to working on these.
I'll update how I get on and regards membership, Thanks for the info.
