1.8 exhaust spec.

Post by ronecc » Mon Sep 29, 2014 10:42 am

Could anybody tell me the dimensions of the exhaust downpipe on a 1.8 single carb. Also the diameter of the flare. GSE made me one, but I think it is for a 1.3 as the flare is rather small (47mm). They say it is the only one they list, so took the chance. Sorry I do not have an original pipe, hence the question.

I've got one I can check at the weekend as its not stored at home, unless someone helps you out first.

I recommend you go back to GES and remind them that they list two single front pipes for the Marina MS105 (1.3) and MS106 (1.8) and then check which one they supplied.

I set up the relationship with GES and the club, if they don't sort it out, let me know and I'll contact them to see if there is anything that I can do.

Thanks Chris. When I enquired about the pipe, originally, they told me that they only made one, the MS105, which is what they sold me. I will contact them. They did shape it specially for me, but it was on the 105. I will see where they stand.
Cheers

Hello Chris.
GSE have contacted me and said they will remake the downpipe for me. No explanation why I was not quoted for the correct one. Trouble is all the rest of the system was designed to fit the narrower system. I will see if it can be adapted. Of course GSE want the old pipe back to make it match, that is the next problem to find a carrier to get it from N.Yorks to Devon at a reasonable price.
Thanks for the offer of intervention, but I think it will be sorted.
Regards
Ron

It's OK the back half of the system is common to the 1.3, 1.7 & 1.8.

Try www.myhermes.co.uk

Try and get GES to pay the postage costs as it is their foul up.

Is it? a 1.3 pipe is a smaller diameter than a 1.8/1.7 pipe I thought. The rear over axle bend and tail box is the same..

I was counting the downpipe/front box as one unit, the way it was made by BL.

Ah, I assumed that the GES system was 3 separate sections, as I have seen other stainless suppliers manufacture in the past, hence the confusion.

I just had the downpipe from them, as it is on my kit car. They shaped it around the torsion bar bracket. When I asked them to make the rest of the system they could not give me a date as they were very busy. I sorted the rest through Cybrand, on the Wirral, great company to deal with, and quick.
Will try Hermes, thanks.
