Technically yes, but I think it's still being reviewed every budget. I suspect how long it continues for may depend on our next government.

Shouldn't that be 01.04.2016 though Chris, for cars registered before 01/01/1976? Or am I a year out?
Mud (being a late '73 build) became tax exempt April 2014.

Hi Matt

Yes you are correct, the legislation for this year was passed in the Finance Act 2014 - extract here.

Of course what this means is that the Finance Act 2015 will sort out next years nice and early.

Will we have to apply for a change in taxation class?
If a link was changed to "ebay linky" then that was probably Sam, because she's sad..

Yes the car moves from Private Light Goods (PLG) to Historic Vehicle.

I have been to our local post office and they have told me next time the tax is due take the V5 with me and they can change the class to historic there and then.

That's right, they will take your V5 off you and send it off to DVLA and it will come back with Historic Status rather than PLG.

You only need a letter from the club if the car was registered in 1976, but manufactured in 1975.

My estate was registered 9.1.1976 so must have been built in 1975, so does it become tax exempt this April or next? I'm a bit confused.

The Post Office won't process an application, as the reg is 1976. DVLA are likely to allow it if you apply direct as they understand that it takes a few weeks to get from the production line to the showroom. It's all down to the chassis number to prove when it was manufactured, if you have any problems the club can check the chassis number to confirm that it was/wasn't built in 1975 and write a letter to the DVLA for you.

It was definitely built in 75, in either October or early November  Sadly it won't be tax exempt until next year. This year it is for cars built before 1st Jan 75, next year 1st Jan 76 etc etc

An updated article will be appearing on the Club website ASAP, been a bit busy sorting out delivery of my new car :-D

Thanks Josh, I'd just pm'd Chris the chassis number and asked what the process is for getting a letter from the club. I'm due to tax it in April anyway.
