Is it too far gone? or can it be saved?

Post by tomrussell94 » Wed May 13, 2015 5:12 pm

I have a 1975 Morris 10CWT Suntor (based on a Marina van) which I have begun restoring. However today whilst inspecting the sills I notice some loose rust and kept digging... There is now a huge hole and half the wheel arch missing! Rust has clearly been eating a way at it for a while. The rest of the bodywork isn't too bad with various bits of surface rust and a hole in the front wing. Basically what I'm asking is - should I accept defeat as the rust is too bad and sell it off for spares as i know they are a rare vehicle, or can this still be saved? if so how much would this bit cost as I am useless with welding.

thanks!

any advice welcome!

Tom.

I have repaired a lot worse than that in my time. Typical 1970s rot I would get in there with the angle grinder and have a good look see how far into the spring hanger and the floor its gone. Looks like its had a cover sill on it to me. But remember rust works on the iceburg principal what you can see is only the tip!!

That's nothing  See Franks old Van restoration or my Jubilee or Glens White Mumford (Gary's old car)
Anything can be fixed if you throw enough time or money at it. So its down to you to work out how much you are prepared to spend and if you can do the work yourself or not etc.
Much worse cars have been put back to perfect condition on here with help and advice from all :D

yeah think i was just being a bit dramatic! lol thanks guys, next big question is cost! any idea how much a sill repair/replacement could be? just a rough figure as although i can do surface bodywork fine ive never held a welder in my life so wouldn't trust myself to do it! thanks

Just clean the points and straighten up that outside mirror and this will be a good 'un...
