Tie bar bushes
Hi,
Sorry for all the recent posts..
I am not sure of the correct name, but tie bar bushes seems reasonable..
Has anyone done them on the driveway, if so, what's the best method and of course the best place to actually buy them?
While underneath the car earlier I saw they had deteriorated quite significantly since the last time I was underneath...
In case tie bar is not correct, I mean the rod that goes from the lower part of the front hub, to the front of the chassis. The bushes are yellow.

Really easy to do Philip. You can buy them from Superflex and they are called tie bar bushes.

Original tie bar bushes were a yellow sponge rubber, they deteriorate and go crumbly. They are no longer available. Everyone fits the polyurethane version available here, http://www.superflex.co.uk/proddetail.p ... F234-0669K

Haynes manual covers it, I think.

Undo both ends of tie bar. One nut each. Pull out bar and replace bushes. Struggle to get bar back in and replace nuts. It really is simple.

At the suspension end of the tie bar is a vertical bolt securing the tie bar to the yoke on the front of the lower suspension arm.
Once you have the car on axle stands, you can use your jack under the trunnion to raise it up to horizontal, which makes it easier to remove and refit the vertical bolt.
When you rebuild with the new bushes, just loose fit the tie bar/chassis end and then sort out the suspension arm end. Once the suspension end is sorted and tightened, then go back and tighten the chassis end.

Yup, don't wiggle it about too much.

I find that fully securing the front end of the bar - ie compressing the new bushes - allows pretty easy fitment of the trailing end.
